What's that you're eating?

The Owl Cafe is legendary!! Been to Albuquerque many times, but haven't made it there, yet. Have had a lot of green chile In Albuquerque. a lot of ways, but never had any green chile cheese burgers. 😞 Client took me to Ten 3 once at the top of the tramway, and I couldn't believe that there wasn't a single thing on the menu with any klnd of green chile. Always have gone to Church Street Cafe for my green chile fix.

Anyway . . .

Yeah, I could eat a one pound burger.

When I was in my 20s.

A half pounder now would give me a tummy ache for hours.

Yes, the Owl Cafe in San Antonio, NM is Legendary, and everyone should stop there at least once to check it out,.

But the Buckhorn has made better green chile cheeseburgers for many years...

I was really upset when the former owners announced that they were retiring and wer going to close the Buckhorn.
But fortunately two of their employees worked out a deal to take it over and keep it operating with the identical menu and suppliers (they get their beef locally, which is part of their secret).

Guess I was talking about a different Owl Cafe. The one in San Antonio that you were talking about is indeed legendary as the original. But I've never been to San Antonio, NM - only San Antonio, TX. I was talking about the one on Eubank in Albuquerque with its famous owl shaped roof. Anyway, sorry for generating any confusion.

Another visit for lunch today at my local Korean restaurant for beef dolsot bibimap. :)

Also just received a notice that one of my favorite fruit growers will open their orchard for "early" white peaches this weekend.

Actually you are correct, because the Owl Cafe is on Eubank in Albuquerque. The one in the center of San Antonio, NM is actually named the Owl Bar & Cafe. The Buckhorn is about a 1/4 mile away as you are entering San Antonio, NM from the west.

I've been to Albuquerque frequently in the past, as well, but for some reason I've never spent time in San Antonio too.

Gotta add this to my "bucket list" before I eventually "kick it." ;)

Local crawfish barn has a live band once a month and tonight they got rained out, fortunately unfortunately because we are DRY here.
Ducked inside and ordered this gem of fried green tomatoes with fried shrimp and bacon pepper jelly.

A view of the 18th Green while eating lunch at The Grill At Wente Vineyards in Livermore, CA. Some of the vineyards are visible on the left past the flag and most of the back 9 is located beyond the top of the hill along the ridge and down towards the left past the trees in the distance.

You're looking at a flank steak sandwich (made w/sauteed onions, pepperjack cheese, lettuce, tomato, a smashed avocator and serrano aioli on a bolito roll) plus fries and a pint of DIPA (don't recall the brewery) hidden by the sandwich. Forgot to order the crab cakes. Oh well . . . next time.

I always prefer to have beer w/lunch even when I'm eating at a vineyard. LOL! ;)

And, dinner tonight. A skillet roasted chicken. It was juicy and delicious! :)

Easiest way to roast a chicken at home that I know of. Dry, oil and season a whole chicken. Trussing the legs is optional. Heat a 12" cast iron pan in the oven at 500 degrees. Smaller pans will restrict air/heat flow.

Remove the hot skillet (carefully) and put chicken in it and return it to the oven. Cook for 15 mins at 500 and then lower heat to 350. Cook at 350 til internal temps reach 160 breast and 170 thigh, which was only 30 mins for me.

Rest the bird for 10 mins and then breakdown the bird, carve as needed and eat.

Just had to run my house fan while roasting the chicken to avoid setting off the smoke alarm nearest my kitchen. LOL! :)
