What's that you're eating?

How did the sous vide poached eggs turn out for you?
They were good, but I overcooked them by about a minute. Was a little tough getting the shell off without it sticking some, and the yolk was a little firmer than preferred.y fault missing the end of the timer. Taste was excellent, and they held shape well other than where the shell stuck some. I will be trying again soon. It does take a little more time than regular poached eggs, but would be worth it for larger breakfasts where I need to make 12 or more at a time.

I always try and stop by Chaps Pit Beef in Maryland whenever I travel down south. Love their sandwiches and the smoky flavor of the meats. I always add a little of the Tiger Sauce (Horseradish mayo) to the sandwiches.

Pretty much what my diet has consisted of since November ~ Baked Chicken and Tomatoes every day and a Hard-Boiled egg every Morning usually ~ 3.5 Ounces at Noon and another 3.5 in the evening ~ and some kind of Fruit Daily ~

Looks good and very healthy but EVERY DAY? That would be really boring. Medical reasons I presume.

It's always the skinny ones that can eat a ludicrous amount of food.
So true. When I was in my 20s I dated a petite gal who weighed 92 pounds. I could eat a lot back then, but she would bury me. At least twice I can remember dumb waiters (as opposed to dumbwaiters. 🤣 ) who wound up picking up our tab after betting she could NEVER eat what she ordered. Once was at this old Mexican chain restaurant, Chi Chis. It was hilarious when afterwards, she ordered and ate dessert.

Our town has a really good Italian festival (coming up soon).
Years ago, the Italian American Club would have an all you can eat spaghetti dinner.
We got there late, so the first news was, we’re out of meatballs, all we have is sausage. Well OK!
Andy digs in. I don’t know how many plates he ate, but eventually the guy brings a platter and says..you broke us! We’re out of spaghetti, and we aren’t making more. Just then, the kitchen emptied, surrounded our table clapping. To them it was a compliment to the food. Which by the way was great. Andy is not that big either.

When I finally hit my growth spurt around ~13 - 14, my metabolism and appetite were ridiculous (grew almost 6" taller and was lean and gangly. Partly why I paid for my first gym membership at 14 😂).

Parents used to like going to buffets for Sunday brunch (and we'd usually have friends and relatives along, and make it a laid back eat, chill and chat kinda thing).

One Sunday, after realizing how much I usually ate at one of these, I decided to keep count (and set a record). I ate 14 plates worth of food, over the course of about 3 hours 😲.

Around plate #12, my aunt went, "How many plates of food have you had?!", and I replied, "This is number 12". She then turned to my mom and said, "Have you had him checked for worms?" 🤣🤣🤣

My mom laughed and replied, "Actually, we did. The family doc just told us it's his metabolism and all the sports/physical activity".

My aunt went, "Must cost a fortune to feed him!"... then after a pause, looking at my gangly, skinny ass working on dessert plate #3/plate #13, "Where does all the food go? Must be nice to be able to eat like that and still be skinny...".

My brother quips, "I know how to lose 15lbs in one week! Get hepatitis!" 🤣🤣🤣
(he'd gotten Hepatitis A somehow, a few months prior).

Took my sister out last night to Acquerello (a 2 star Michelin restaurant) in SF for her 81st b-day. Here are some of the highlights.

A before dinner drink for me at a bar around the corner.

The bartender only charged me $25 for a 2oz shot which I thought was underpriced considering the fact that a bottle of it sells for $1500 or more and considering that I paid $70 for 2oz of the same stuff at another bar/restaurant in Walnut Creek just a month or so ago.

Tastes great BTW. Very rich flavors of chocolate and carmel. Well worth a try if you've never had it before.

Now for dinner. An amuse-bouche trio to start. Other than the oysters I forget what the others were made of but they tasted great.

A couple of tiny pieces of Kobe Beef that we both had which was WAY overpriced. The cost totally wiped out the "deal" that I got on the Old Rip Van Winkle. Should have had 2 pours of the bourbon to average down. LOL! ;)

Note: Just noticed that it was Wagu not Kobe beef but the point remains the same.

A very attractive presentation of what was just a serving of vanilla gelato for desert.

And a photo of the after dinner treat cart w/a view of part of the dining room.

A great evening out w/my sister who I see all too seldom. :)

'Tiny pieces of Kobe beef' is accurate 😲

A medium rare 10oz Kobe beef steak in Japan (long time ago), is still the best steak I've ever had. How much? No idea. Someone else picked up the tab and wouldn't let me see the bill.
