What's that you're eating?

those things look like they've been hired to break my kneecaps

I'm frankly more concerned with their effects on other body parts.

Edit: the Scotch Bonnets are good. A nice heat that isn't overpowering. About on par with a good Serrano and much better than some bland habaneros I had recently. I might try to plant some.

So, I attempted to make a Peach Cobbler w/the 4# of Suncrest Peaches that I still had on hand but it turned into a Peach Crumble instead. :(

This is proof that I'm no baker. LOL! ;)

Made the mistake of choosing a cobbler recipe that called for a pie type crust instead of using an easier batter based recipe instead. The crust that I made (per the receipe w/2 sticks of butter!) wouldn't brown properly but it did get crisp. So, I just broke up the crust and made it a fairly decent crumble topping.

Still tastes great even though it doesn't look quite "right" and, even though there's not that much sugar in it (only 3/4 cup), it tastes really sweet and tastes/smells really "peachy." So, it wasn't a total failure. Just need to buy some whipped cream and/or vanilla ice cream to round it out before it's all gone.

Yum!! :)

I wish you were my neighbor.

Took a drive up the Sacramento River with plans to eat lunch at one of my favorite drive bar/restaurants -- "Al the Wops" located in Locke, CA.

Got there when they opened at 11 but learned that they weren't serving any food til 2pm because they planned a "free taco/enchilada" July 4th event.

Couldn't wait that long, so this is what I ate for "brunch" today -- a bag of chips and a Lagunitas IPA. ;)

When I got home I heated up a large braised bone-in oxtail (w/least 6oz of meat on it) w/parapdella pasta covered w/gravy and topped w/chopped Italian parsley with another serving of the peach crumble I made topped w/some Cool Whip that I bought on the way home

Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of this meal. :(

Oh well . . . but it was good and the peach crumble is quickly disappearing. Here's a pic of a 2nd helping that I ate late last night. :)

My favorite local Chinese restaurant just reopened for dine-in service after a 2 yr hiatus.

They only had a couple of dim sum dishes available. Steamed Shrimp Dumplings and BBQ Pork Buns. So, I supplemented the meal w/some Beef Chow Fun.

Nothing fancy but still hit the spot. Didn't like that they started adding a 18% tip to the bill. Thing is I use to give them more than that. Oh well . . .

Got a hankering for noodles today so I tried making some char siu pork with soba noodles I had on hand. Turned out pretty good, but I think I went a little heavy on the 5-spice.

Naturally, I had to add a little heat from the leftover scotch bonnets (which seem to get warmer with age 🥵).

I also heated up some egg rolls left from my batch earlier this year (see post #133, they seem to freeze well) but forgot to snap a pic before dousing in Colman's mustard and devouring. So it goes.
