Whats the best flipper for the money??? I developed a liking to flippers!

ZT has some really great flipper options. I have a 566 and 770, with an 801 on the way. I would recommend any of those. The 566 is almost a perfect edc size if you dont mind the assisted opening. Ergos are great, and it carries really well with the deep clip. I personally would carry any of these over a Southard. I've just never been a huge Spyderco fan. Nothing against the blades or the company at all, just not much that truly appeals to me. I will say though that I am wanting to try a Domino.

By Kershaw there is also the Junkyard Dog that has been mentioned (I am actually carrying one of the DLC versions today), the Knockout, the RAM if you can get one for a decent price, Scrambler, and the OSO Sweet.

Also just a mention if you decide on a ZT/Kershaw shoot Dave (Kershawguy here on the forums) a message. Really great guy, great prices, and the fastest shipping I've seen.

Kershaw DLC JYD fits the bill besides the easy to maintain edge part. (The cutting edge is D2).

The blade length is a hair over 3.5, it's a dream to flip, but it rides in the pocket a little high. Nothing too bad though.

The Galyean Pro series flips like a dream too.

I'm hoping the Skyline is a good choice, I bought one today.

The Skyline is a great knife. I just got one on Wednesday :)

However, to the OP - i would recommend the Vantage Avid... i have both the big and small ones and love them.

Not a bad knife, light and thin, really good for the money like all the kershaws. It was just a little small for my hands so I gave it away. The flipper could also use some jimping or something to make it easier to flip. You won't regret it. If you don't like it you can easily sell it and only loose like $5.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but the Brous Bionic is a flipper he's releasing soon that is going to sell for about $160. D2, Aluminum handles, liner lock, IKBS. Looks like the flipping action is really nice.

As many others have mentioned the Spyderco Domino and Southard are amazing flippers for the price point. The Domino being a snappier flipper but the Southard feels better in hand and quality wise.

but.... for pure value.... A discontinued CRKT Summa by Gerry McGinnis is the best value i've found. A drop of lube on the pivot, and this baby flips better than my southard and feels amazing in hand too!!

I would definitely suggest the Kershaw Knockout, I recently got to handle one and I almost had to buy it because it felt so nice as an edc. it has a deep carry clip, about 3 inch blade, no recurve, flipper opened, really slim design and a beautiful yet formal look to it with the black anodized aluminum handle and stonewashed blade. Lastly they go for something like $56.00 on Amazon.

Well I am not sure I have anything new to add, there have been a lot of great recommendations, but here is my two cents on some of the knives that I own or have owned...

Spyderco Southard - fantastic knife, and easily one of my favorites. Two issues with it though: the butterscotch brown g10 is hideous on an unprecedented scale (no pun intended), plan on spending another $100 for a new scale. The pocket clip, although aesthetically pleasing, is a weapon in itself. Mine put a hole in my jeans, so I bought an aftermarket Ti clip from STR. Many people just round it off with their favorite power tool.

ZT 0566 - my choice for you if you want to spend over $100. Good steel, good ergos, smooth. I love mine, it is a great size for EDC, not too heavy and it flips great. I de-assisted mine for the sole reason I prefer it that way. It may not have the titanium locking scale that many prefer but I also don't have to worry about the lock sticking either.

Kershaw Skyline - Kershaw makes a lot of good assisted flippers but my favorite is the Skyline which is manual. Mine flips open without wrist action almost without fail. It's a great design and size for EDC. I hate the pocket clip for tip-up carry though.

Buck Vantage - I have had two Buck Vantage's and although they are a very good value they just don't function that well as flippers. The flipper is too small in my opinion.

CRKT Ripple - I own the cheaper liner lock version and it functions very well as a flipper. I smoothed out the gimping on the flipper as I found it disagreeable but it is a good size and value. Only tip down carry though, if that matters.

Thanks for all the suggestions and comments. It's alot to soak up! LOL

I didnt think that I was going to open a can of worms by asking such a general questions as there are so many choices! :D

I have to say so far, I still leaning towards the 0566 as a great mid priced EDC'able flipper! I had the 0560 but found that too big to carry but like it alot and this 0566 looks exactly like it but just a slightly smaller version! I wish locally I could handle one before purchase but there doesnt seem to be any shops that carry much here!

If you want manual flippers I would say go for a Kershaw Skyline or a R.A.M. if you can find one. If you don't mind spending around $200 I would say get a ZT 0560.

Kershaw RAM 1910 hands down best/most fun/sweetest/smoothest flipping knife and you can still find them at a certain place for sub $100 (it ain't elmax steel or anything but it'll cut and flip like nobody's business).

If you like a THUNK/KICK assisted when you flip... ZT0350 (Kershawguy blems pricing is unbeatable).
