What's the biggest deal killer for you?

I wonder how many people here have a serrated tanto at home but claim not to in order to fit in with the prevailing (posted) opinion. :p

I have one serrated tanto in the drawer but I don't mind tantos and the serrations are on the spine, so according to my long list, that one is good to go.

...Also, I would like to say that an obvious deal-breaker is when some smug on the World Wide Web ships (CON)US-only. Not in the least place here in the Exchange too. All those American Knife Nuts that can brag about "this great community" but at the same time exclude the rest of the world of this "great community" when selling or giving away a knife. Of course there are plenty of American individuals and shops that ship international (with The Knife Connection having the lowest international shipping costs) but it is a deal breaker of course for the rest of the world and a freaking annoying one as well. By the way: this ridiculous fear for shipping international (a service that is older than the US itself) is solely and only displayed by some Americans, never I have heard from an other nationality this reluctancy for international shipping, not from Canadians, nor Kiwis, nor Aussies, nor Brits, nor Japs. Anyway, sorry for my mini-rant.

I didn't thank you very much. (But I'm no native speaker, so maybe my dyslectic non-native head wrote something wrongly...)

...(Luckily I found an online US friend through Youtube who is willing to ship me anything I want in a flat rate box <15 USD and even undervalue it :p)

Thank me? I thought I showed restraint in my response. But stand tall by your jerkoff statement if you want. Nobody is confused about what you wrote and you are not either. Not surprising to see that you are one of the people asking others to lie on international shipping forms, though.

Say what you want about them but serrated tantos get the job done every time. You can use them to cut almost anything, without thinking or caring. I think they look kind of ugly but they are probably the most useful and get the most use unless you have a very specific application where a curved blade does better.

They sure do.
I think all of us have at least one or two ugly knives that work really well.

Good to see there's some flexibility to the list. :D

I will echo a lot of ppl on here. The biggest is price. I am willing to pay a price for a folder but there is a line that I can not go past

For me just a couple things (and this has changed over time).
-Coated/painted blades
-Really extensive or large serrations
-Unnecessary features like the pipe on that crazy thing circulating in a few threads or the fire steel I saw built into the butt of a handle once (and I mean permanently mounted, not in a handy storage section)

I'd have to say price and size would be the only *automatic* deal killers.

I suppose if it were made out of ridiculously bad or fragile materials that would also be a factor - I probably wouldn't buy a ceramic blade, for example. But the vast majority of knives on these forums tend not to trigger those kind of objections.

As for the rest - I say variety is the spice of life so I try not to arbitrarily rule things out. I have preferences, but I view that as being different than a "deal killer". Bottom line is that if I like enough about the knife, I'll buy it.

All I could think of while reading this is green eggs and ham:

Do you like knives with a cheetah pattern?

>I'd rather be shot from a cannon to Saturn.

How about skull beads, hawkbills, or recurves?

>A white hot furnace each one of these deserves!

If it glows in the dark, has the wrong type of mark

If it's too hard or too soft or the color is off

If there's copper or brass or it's lacking in class

Then I simply won't buy them or just even try them

and if you ask me you'll only get sass.

Great job! There's a ton of money I'm children's literature.

I'm sorry I hurt your feelings, but you stated

Please do not infer that we are distasteful or unaware of the rest of the world.

implying that I concluded that all Americans "are distasteful or unaware of the rest of the world". I did not. I did not even state that any or one American is "distasteful or unaware of the rest of the world". Thereby your accusation is a fallacy (if my English is correct) or to use your own words: a "jerkoff" fallacy. My intention was to explain that this fear for international shipping is only displayed by Americans, never by other nationalities. I should have used the word "some" i.e. some Americans, but the context of my entire post should have made that clear I think. But you can "stand tall by your jerkoff statement" and fallacy if you want. I still assume most readers are not confused about what I wrote and me not either. I'm sorry if you got butthurt over it. Again: I love Americans like I love freedom and capitalism. Further I can live with your "jerkoff statement" that it is not surprising you that I thankfully accept the offer of one of my American friends to undervalue a package i.e. ship it as "repaired under warranty" in order to evade 21% VAT over the entire package including the shipping costs + 15 EUR customs service charges. I am a libertarian, living in The socialist Netherlands, a country with one of the highest tax burdens in the world (with income tax brackets of 52%, 21% VAT, 8 USD/gallon gas and 45% tax on a new car, for example). And as a libertarian living in a country with one of the highest tax burdens in the world I have absolutely zero remorse evading a little bit of tax now an than. (FYI: all those taxes make a standard Spyderco Military cost here almost 200 EUR; a couple months ago that meant 250 USD.)

Fit & Finish for sure based on specs. Pure lies I can't stand -- permutations of fallacies.

I'm baffled by denials of accusations of overseas shipments fears. Of course, there are many variances from country to country. However, if you live in the U.S. you try to limit your risk and even then minus insured payment and delivery you're still screwed. Even through "guaranteed" auspices of PayPal, eBay, USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc.

I dislike broad accusations in general.

dealbreakers off the top of my head:
price
recurve blade
combo edge
lockback
steels less than 154 or S30V
FRN handle
blunt tips
shorter than 3.25"

Discuss the topic, not one another. I don't think anyone would mind if some of you leave out the politicrap references out of your posts, this ain't the place for it.

I think we are understanding one another now.
Meh, I don't understand why you started falsely accusing me of blatant generalizations I didn't make and put words in my mouth I didn't state. I also don't understand why you started using low disrespectful adjectives like "jerkoff" towards me personally. I just quoted you and used your own words against you after you attacked me. So I guess concerning the BS vid you posted, you should start looking in the mirror.

I am sorry, but I did, until I got personally attacked and called out with very disrespectful adjectives (if that is correct English).

I will leave it at that. Goodnight.

Probably weight, under 4 oz is ideal. If its too heavy, I naturally wont carry it as much. Thats why I lean towards cheap folders under 3oz - easily replaced and doesn't feel like I am carrying anything at all.
