What's the cheapest knife that stopped your search for the ideal EDC?

the same one i started with, delica. after buying numerous others for multiples of the price i am back with the spydie.

I've been EDC-ing this (top knife) Chinese Robert Klaas "FourMaster." It was around $10. I really like the blade selection. They aren't being produced any more so I bought a couple of them.

A US made Kershaw Zing really slowed me down for the last couple of years but it has not stopped my search for an ideal EDC. IIRC, it ran about 40-45 clams new. Maybe a little less. Don't remember for sure. I am finding that it would be on my short list of knives to keep if I had to limit myself to three or four folders.

I carried a byrd meadowlark rescue with a spyderedge every day in my apron at General motors. I cut countless boxes and my thumb lol. It is an amazing knife and in my opinion one of the most cost effective out there!

I don't think it will stop me from buying more knives but I received a Buck Vantage s30v in a trade and I like it a lot . For the money you pay it's a sweet knife .

Most spent: Too damn much...

Least expensive I actually have in edc rotation: Spyderco tenacious LNIB purchased here for $20. Best deal I ever received not sure if the prior owner tweaked it but I swear it's one of the smoothest knives I've owned.

Brad Southard AVO...$425. Perfect knife for me.

The CRKT Squid. I've owned knives nearly 50 times the price and still come back to the Squid.

I received a Spyderco whose pivot was cleaned up and lubed with a drop of fluoro, same stuff that crk gives you when you pick up on of his. Makes them super smooth.

Ontario Rat 1. I have more expensive knives with the so called "super" steel blades, but I've been carrying this knife for a while. I think it's due to the blade shape and grind ( it's a great slicer!) and the way the handle fits my hand. This knife changed my opinion of AUS8 steel. That being said, the search will never truly end.

I carried a Buck 110 for years and was happy with it. While I now carry much more expensive knives - I cannot think of any cutting operation that old 110 - when it was sharp - wouldn't do just as well.

Stainz

I could not agree more. I too carried the venerable 110 for years and it still holds a passionate place in my collection; so much in fact that my trusty old one was refurbished by Buck, coated with oil and packed away for my son when I pass. I also have a Buck Custom Shop fancy-schmancy 110 in BG-10 and a regular plain $40 420HC Buck that I carry now and again - for posterity's sake.

I've had a few Sebenzas and now only have a 25, which I adore; but do not carry often. I have carried and still do carry one Emerson or another just about daily but, to me, their true value is in SD. I also carried an Endura for years, until it got lost and I promptly replaced it with another, in VG-10, which I really like.

To me, loss is the single biggest threat to an EDC folder. Other than occasions where a specific application is highly anticipated (i.e. H1 Salts, etc.) I have gone to sub-$100 EDC folders given, again, the risk of loss, along with the amazing offerings available in that price range anymore.

In that regard, the Kershaw-Emersons, Ontario RAT (1 & 2) along with the Cold Steel Voyager have pretty much ended my EDC search as any one of them, depending on anticipated activities of the particular day, along with a ubiquitous SAK or multi-tool pretty much satisfies most EDC folder needs - never the wants, but certainly the needs.

A ~55 year old Craftsman 9407/Ulster 180 peanut I picked up for less than $15 sometime in the last year. Since I bought it, it has been the only one in my pocket.

For the ten or so years before that I carried a small red bone pen, a Boker Tree Brand 8288SS and in the interim between those two, a Case Baby Butterbean. I could be happy carrying any one of the three for the rest of my life.

Unfortunately (I guess) I have not tried enough cheaper knives before going for mid-techs and now I am wondering whether I went too far. I have small Sebenza 21 which I like but not quite as much as I expected and have a Southard Tolk on the way. And it all started just because I lost a super blue Dragonfly (even if that does not sound too logical). But I do hope to get to 2 or 3 pocket knives (different sizes) that I really like and stop there. And no, these do not need to be some super expensive knives - that is something I still need to work on tough.

Perfectly ok to care more about the design of a knife than its price!

i stopped at $407.50

First i bought a zt 350 and benchmade 940. hated the zt, loved the benchmade... but then i heard about chris reeves. im stopping while im still ahead. i would like to look at some hinderers, but i'll stop now. Yea, i'll stop. I should stop looking.

I've had multiple sebenzas, striders, ZTs, spydercos and everything in between go through my hands (haven't gotten into the custom market yet). I always go back to the paramilitary 2. I got the brown one 3-4 years ago and I haven't been able to get it out of my pocket since. I always go back to it. It's beat up, a lot of the blade has been sharpened away because j use it more than anything else and even though I currently have a nice large sebenza 21, I still carry my paramilitary 2 instead. I love the pocket clip, love how the large handle melts into my hand and I love the blade. It honestly is the perfect knife for me. so yeah, the paramilitary 2 in earth brown g10 and s35vn. It was around 150-160 when I bought it I believe.
