In the past I've purchased a few custom folders in the $1000 range just to do it. All were sold within 6 months once I stopped trying to convince myself that such art knives are better. I still look back on that period and shake my head. Luckily I didn't lose anything in the re-sales.
I'm down to my last Sebenza, a CGI, which sits in a drawer and hasn't seen pocket time for a year or more. I keep it only because I consider myself a collector now, due to all the knives (most of them higher-end) I have accumulated over the years without really realizing it, and keep telling myself I HAVE to have a Sebenza because of that. My only knife-OCD issue that I'm aware of.
When Cold Steel came out with the Ti-Lite it immediately attracted my attention, mainly due to the fact that I like the Italian stiletto style and always have (owned several of those off and on too, clear back to when I was a pup).
I put it off and put it off because of the price--"this HAS to be a cheapie," I told myself for a long time--and finally picked up the 4" model for about $40. Once I had it in hand It far exceeded any expectations I had for it. Still does. Now I own both versions in the newer steel and still have the original 4" in AUS 8 as a beater. Yeah, it's a liner lock but a very STRONG one due to the patented bend in the lock head.
Currently I find myself packing a Ti-Lite more than any of my other knives (the close second being an Emerson karambit which I have been sucessfully experimenting with as an EDC for about 5 months now). How long will this go on, I don't know. If there is anything "cheap" about a Ti-Lite I've yet to discover it. IMO, these knives are a bargain at twice the price or more.
Strange but true...
EDIT: Gotta come back and mention the RATs 1 and 2 because I still consider them top "inexpensive" knives also. Can't forget those.....
