What's the deal with the psuedo-superiority attitude knife people have towards people

People that carry knives aren't superior to people that don't, we are just more powerful. There is a difference.

People who are frightened by knives deserve respect too. The knife you use open boxes could be wielded by a mugger or maniac. You could be a nice guy by day and serial killer at night. It important that people that see you with a knife know your intentions.

I carry my baby blue mini-grip at work, because it sets people at ease, my pentagon II freaks people out, so it stays at home. A responsible knife owner takes other peoples opinions into considerations and if you don't your an @$$4073. I am especially considerate of women. You never who your dealing with and what their experiences are. I flick my knife all day in front of my co-workers, but when guests are around I wait for something to cut before I whip it out.

We use the term sheeple, because the are the sheep and we are the wolves. But don't forget being a wolf comes with responsibilities.

For the first part quoted, WHY do you hope that?

Because that description rick43t3 gives of himself (herself?) pretty much personifies a geek to a non knife nut. So I assume the description was made in jest.

For the second part, how good is your brain at cutting open boxes, seatbelts, and wires?

I find boxes are not particularly secure enclosures and keys do well enough at opening boxes for most folks. I've never cut a seatbelt. And few folks ever need to use a knife to cut wire.

NO ONE said having a brain was a bad thing(my brain occasionally gets me money:D), but with out SOME form of tools, your brain will not get you too far.
Try making a phone call without a phone(just use your brain).
Next time that screw needs to be screwed into place, forget the screwdriver, and use your brain to twist it.
Why not cut your steak with your barin?
Get the idea?

Point is, people are usually more resourceful than knife nuts give them credit for. That is the whole point I and the OP make. Folks find much more utility with a phone, and choose to carry them. Folks who use screwdrivers often will carry them. And I have no need to carry a steak knife, because I have them stocked kn my kitchen and most restaurants will provide them when I eat out. Knives are less necessary to most folks, so relatively few carry them.

I don't like to call myself superior against anyone. There was this guy at central europe with distinctive moustache fashion who thought he was superior.. That's dangerous way to think.

I like to carry knife, but it doesn't make me feel anyhow superior towards anyone. What an arrogant and stupid way of thinking it would be that I would be superior. If someone feels like she doesn't need knife, then fine by me. If one likes to carry one, then good for her!

Please don't take this the wrong way :), but that has to be the goofiest thing I have ever heard on bladeforums. People who have an unnatural phobia of sharp things are not a race. They may properly be described in many ways (as I did brilliantly in my first post), but the victims of racism they are not.

I too am very confused with that post. Perhaps there was an error in typing, but regardless of the fact, Racism is bias involving people of differant races, even though we are all of the same race, the human race, the last time I checked. The act of being sheepish, or the term sheeple, is describing the actions of a certain kind of person, not their race. There is no connection between acting like sheep, and what continent one's family came from. The only thing one must keep in mind is to not count sheeple when one is trying to get to sleep. Sheeple are not pleasant beasts, in fact they're rather miserable beings. Sheeple are more closely related to barnyard critters, better known as chickens.:)

One reason why I've made the same point as the OP, several times before, is that in my own limited sample, "sheeple" don't really exist. I've lived in the big bad city all my life, have carried a knife of some kind since I was about seven, and never have I gotten any negative comments about using a knife. I find that folks will not complain when you use the right tool for a job. That includes knives.

As such, I attribute the whining about sheeple by knife nuts around here probably more a reflection of the knife nuts than of the supposed sheeple. A general hypersensitivity and insecurity about the subject is perhaps one of the characteristics of any enthusiast. The way I see it, we should simply accept that it's unrealistic to expect the general population to accommodate our knife fetishes, any more than I should care about some guy's Harley or knowledge of baseball trivia.

Sheeple tend to be scared of their own shadow, and and need someone to tell them what to think (such as the media) hence they are sheep. I think they are simply a waist of natural recourses and sucking up my air. I have no respect for someone who is incapable of doing for themselves. If someone asks me to borrow a knife I simply tell them to cut it with their finger. By the way this sheeple term applies to people who can't :
1 hunt
2 fish
3 start a fire
4 prepare food from scratch
5 survive without electricity
6 build a shelter
7 change their own oil
8 change a light bulb

I think Absintheur used the wrong descriptor in his post. I think the scorn heaped upon non knife people (and beyond) by powernoodle would be better described as bigotry than racism.

What description I gave of myself? How many girls do you know go by the name of Rick? Yes people find great utility using a phone. They find utility as they text while driving, and crash into trees, killing themselves and unfortunately innocent victims as well. I think people talking on cell phones cause more death and injury than knives do. How utilitarian. ;)

It's called a waste of good air we could be breathing.:)

No, a lot of people just live in the city and their interests are elsewhere. And do you pay taxes? Do you watch television and read the news? Do you obey the law? People here throw the term 'sheeple' around too much. It makes them look just as silly as the stereotype they are against.

Jesus people, some people just don't have an interest in knives and the outdoors. Calm down.

Why should members of Blade Forum not be able to make fun of people who don't like knives. It is our forum, and the people who matter here love knives. We have our bias, and why not, this is a knife forum, not a politically correct sheeple forum. The people who are against knives should have their own forum. I thought of a good name for it too: Wooly Sheep Dippers Forum. They can have sub forums about knitting, sheep dipping, types of wool, sheep herding, Basque sheep herders, cures for sleep depravation, etc. :D

Fact is by using derogatory terms like "sheeple" you are committing an type of racism.

for the most part, this statement has already been addressed by esav and others.

just to add, "sheeple" is a term derived from "sheep, sheepdogs, and wolves", correct? Grossman uses these terms as descriptions in his lectures and books. they are not meant as insults in his context.

for the most part, here the term is used in the same way. some exhibit true disdain for "sheeple", but mostly it is meant as a descriptive, and we all know to whom it is meant to refer.

Folks find much more utility with a phone, and choose to carry them. Knives are less necessary to most folks, so relatively few carry them.

I find MUCH more utility with a knife than a cellphone---that's why I do not own a cellphone.
I've had 10 instances over the last 3 years where a cellphone would have been handy; during the same period, I have had use of my knives MANY times.
So I guess I should start telling all those "idiots" who carry cellphones how dumb they are, seeing as I have no need for one, eh?

When I see some lib ripping at a plastic bag or package with his teeth like a savage when I open the same thing with a knife with a simple *zip*, I know I'm superior.

Now that Sharp Phil has stated the obvious, let's apply that to sheeple.

I can't list the number times I've loaned a knife to someone because they won't carry, but they always need to cut or open something. So, they go begging for a handy tool from those who they discriminate against, in social status, and hiring.

They refuse to provide for themselves, and look down on those with foresight to do it for themselves. I learned my lesson, I don't loan to them. I just watch them helplessly gnaw or struggle using an inappropriate tool. They refuse to learn.

Often enough, the same ones who try to restrict my use and carry think nothing of bringing a 8 inch butcher knife into the workplace to cut cake or something. They don't recognize that they match the profile of the biggest abuser. The media continues to support the illusion by highlighting people similar to me.

There are sheeple - they take no regard for their personal protection, and willingly restrict your rights to do so. I do regard them as being of less sound mind. They demostrate it in their daily life - just look at the mortgage situation, loss of jobs, serious debt, and constant drive to achieve the "good" life.

I'm debt free, own firearms and knives, and have a secure pension (so far.) But I'm looked down on in their eyes for my frugality and lack of status, even while they become more dependant on my service and knowledge.

You want to know why sheeple are what they are, and despised here. It's a matter of perspective. Maybe it would be more accurate to characterize them as suburbanite yuppies, or something. One thing is sure, they play the game of exclusion, not inclusion, to make sure you know they are better than you.

Or, maybe that's what we do here. After all, if someone doesn't know that a flatground S30V droppoint titanium framelock is the pinnacle of knives, they have a lot to learn.:D
I wish you were my next door neighbor!

I knew someone would think I was bashing them directly. But I will answer
1 Yes
2 Movies and no to news (can't stand a liberal view point)
3 yes; I enforce the law
and I throw Sheeple where Sheeple belongs! :jerkit: :p

The presence of sheeple in my sample disproves your point.
