Whats the Dullest Knife You Ever got New?

Some dull knives:
-HI Khukuri (forget the model). The area near the tip did not even begin to come to an edge. maybe 1+ mm thick blunted non-edge
-My Collins 27" blade Machete came blunt, which was actually good since I have no sheath and had to bring it back on the plane from Mexico in my duffel bag.
-Spyderco Endura Wave- thick grind, more than 40 degree edge and dull.

Six years ago, I interrupted my then new Kershaw buying spree to buy my first BM - a 551 Grip (440C). Late last Dec saw me buy my second BM - a 201 Activator+ fb (D2). It joined the Grip - neither would cut butter without heating them up first. Last summer, I found their boxes - determined to return them for sharpening. Instead, I got out the Sharpmaker - and had a new career. They are acceptable now - but the premise of such a reportedly fine piece of 'cutlery' delivered new that dull eludes me. A third try is not planned.

Busse's dull OOB? That's interesting - may just convince me to take that $325 I was about to spend for an 'entry' level example and buy a handful of Bucks.

Last Dec, the day after that BM 201 arrived, saw my first Bark River, a Huntsman, arrive. I was shocked - not accustomed to the convex edges, despite my few Marbles then - and drug my left thumb across the blade. No hair 'popped'. I tried paper - wow! Changed the angle and tried arm hair again - wow! Then I saw the blood from my thumb. They are deceptively sharp - at least that one and the five more I've since bought.

I have a lot of queens, (canoes) and 1 came dull to where a person could ride it to town and back without getting cut.

My dullest was my CS voyager tanto. It was OK sharp. Never could get it much sharper than that, unfortunately

CRKT Hissatsu folder. It stayed dull for a while as I could not get a nice edge on it. I thinned it down a bit to a 20 and used the Lansky so my angle was spot on and after a bit stropping its finally sharp. I learned alot about sharpening through this knife so it was a good experience, frustrating but good.

Ontario USAF Pilot's knife. I could never get it even remotely sharp in all the years I had it.

My friend has one of the glock field knives. He did finally succeed in getting in moderately sharp, but it took 100's of passes on his sharpener.

CRKT Bearclaw.

Cold Steel latin machete. Worst edge I ever saw. In fact there was no real edge at all. Wat seriously hard to see the differnce between te front and the back of the blade.

The cold steel machetes all come with horrible areas where the edge should be (I'm talking about the cheap ones) that you must sharpen into an edge. Once you get it into an edge you can get it pretty damn sharp.

Funny with all of the folks talking about Case, as I've never once gotten a piece from them that couldn't shave right out of the box.

My worst was my Opinel, but that's to be expected. Now it's one of my sharpest.

Worst I've seen for OOB sharpness was a Benchmade Infidel a military guy had me sharpen. He had just got it, hadn't used it for anything, but it was dull as hell. The single-bevel grind was at about a 60-degree angle or worse. The way the tip was ground they might as well have made it a full 90. It took more than an hour of work to make it acceptable.

You have hairy thumbs? :D
haha I was thinking the same...

Now hairy palms, well...that's understandable. Hell I've got those.

Emerson CQC-7 was the dullest out of the box I ever owned. Had a hard time cutting paracord, it had an edge like a hockey stick. First Busse Game Warden I owned was not that sharp, but the second one was a lot sharper. Also had a Fallkniven S1 that wasn't exactly shaving sharp, but it also has a fairly thick blade.

Hmm.

Probably a cheapo chinese knife that I bought for 2 bucks at a liquidator store because it has greem scales with pictures of Pele the soccer star on them. Not sure who I am going to gag gift it to yet.

One of my Hairy Carrys wasnt particularly sharp. Fine by me, I sharpen knives when I get them anyway. Rather have the angle wide and dull from the factory, so I can work it down to whatever angle I like.

Except for letter openers, my Fairbairn/Sykes Commando dagger. But who cares, you can sharpen it yourself.

A Joseph Rodgers and Sons "R40" knife.

Most of my butterknives put this knife to shame.

Overall, a pretty poor knife, BTW.

The company I work for once handed out as a gift, a made in China piece of junk knife that my boss falsely called a 'Leatherman.' The main blade was literally butter-knife dull.

I was going to throw mine away, but instead gave it to a co-worker who said he would give it to his son.

Another co-worker actually tried to use his, and it snapped clean into two pieces.
