The heaviest EDC that I carry regularly -- including the last few weeks -- is the Rukus. At 7.7 oz, it is a little heavy. I notice the weight. But the big 4.25 inch blade is so incredibly useful around my off-grid, rainforest homestead, that the weight is worth it. And that big, solid blade with a light detent and an axis lock is easier to deploy and recover than either of the flippers I have (Southard and 0560).

Plus, Benchmade did a great job with the heat treat on the S30V. Never a chip, despite heavy use. Holds a great edge. And it was the sharpest knife I've ever received from a maker.

If it was just big, it would be too big. But it is such a great knife that the weight is more of an asset than a liability.

I've had a ZT0560 for a few weeks now and it's currently my heaviest knife (that gets carried) by far, but I don't much care for it and I think I'm gonna let it go. It's not so much the weight, but the overall design.

Most of my knives hover around 3 to 4 oz on average with a few slightly heavier outliers (the RAT-1 I just received is 5 oz, for example). Personally, weight isn't near as much of an issue for me as shape, slimness and overall comfort. I carry my knives clipped to my pocket; most of the weight is distributed throughout the hip of my pants so I don't notice too much. The killer for me is bulk. If the knife is too thick or too wide for my pockets, I won't carry it.

If I were carrying at the bottom of a pocket, I would definitely want to keep weight down so I'm not dragging a stone around with me.

Oh, and currently, the knife I'm most enamored with is the Spyderco Manix 2 lightweight. The handle may not hold up to a ton of abuse, but the blade size is absolutely ridiculous when you realize the whole thing is under 3 oz. The lock is super-fun to use too. For its size, one might almost forget they're carrying it.

I carry my ZT0300 every day and it is well past 6oz. I admit, I don't NEED a 0300, but I take pride in knowing that when I do, I'll have it with me. Honestly I don't really feel it in my pocket and If i decide to go "Sheeple friendly" I'll go to my ZT0350 satin finish. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's still more than 6oz. Weight doesn't seem to bother me much, just how it feels in my hand when I do use it.

My big EDC is a Spyderco Millie or Microtech Socom Elite. My small EDC is my Caly 3.5.

I could probably go even smaller than the Caly ...

I prefer to carry much lighter knives with alot of blade for the weight, enter the Spyderco Salt 1, or Opinel #8 I just recently picked up, both under 2oz, and alot of blade for the size, the Salt is fully serrated which makes it a chainsaw, the Opinel is a carbon steel work horse and gets everything down, but sometimes I find myself in the mood for a beefy folder, which would be my Recon 1, the old one with the Ultra Lock, pretty beefy blade so that would be the heaviest, or my Cold Steel Black Rock Hunter, I have to admit that knife is so tempting to carry all the time, it's so thin that it makes a perfect backpocket knife and it has a nice blade for heavy duty work with a sharp tip too.

I voted for 5oz or less. That fits my large Sebbie and Zaan @ 4.7oz and 5.0oz, respectively.
The 3.5" XM-18 is bit heavy for me @ 5.6oz, as is the Gayle Bradley @ 5.5oz, even though they are ALL great folders.

I usually carry relatively light weight folders, like a Paramilitary 2 or a Sebenza.

However, I travel a lot and when I'm on the road I'm sometimes limited to one folding knife and one multitool and I feel better with something hefty and rugged like a ZT 0300 or an old Manix. With the right pants and belt, weight isn't an issue (I carry a GP-100, so I'm used to big chunks of steel weighing me down).

My heaviest are the ZT 0300 and 0301. The weight is somewhat noticeable, but they carry very well in my left front pocket. They balance out the keys, change, and traditional folder in my right front pocket.:D

My current EDC rotation is the ZT 0350OR, 0550, and 0561 all of which weigh close to 6 oz. To me they're basically invisible except for the pocket clip and the space they occupy in the pocket.

I love my XM 24...its over 6 oz...it does everything I've ever asked of it without hesitation. Weight isn't a mitigating factor for my edc chores. I work in mfg and prefer to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Zt 301. That and on occasion a Severtech. But I don't care about weight. I would gladly carry one 2x as heavy if I felt I needed to. But I also wear a batman utility belt 7 of 14 days a week. 2 pair cuffs, pepper spray, x26 taser, glock 22 with 2 additional mags, radio.....etc. so an 8oz pocket knife is pretty light.

Biggest I carry is a Zt 0500 mudd. I dont even pay any attention to the weight. Come to think of it, I don't think I could tell you what any of my knives weigh! Does that make me a bad person?

You have a tough job, friend. Thanks for your service.

Not at all. I thought about including an option for "weight doesn't matter", but I figured most folks who selected that option would fall into the "over 6 ounces" category. It turns out you actually support my thesis. The Mudd weighs 6.8 oz. :)

7.7 ounces benchmade adamas. i carry it because i do alot of yard work that requires a good hard use knife, i should carry a fixed blade but a fixed blade is a little to "barbaric" to carry into wal mart

I used to carry my Cold Steel Spartan, but now that I've gotten my 6 inch Ti-Lite, I don't know how much I'll be carrying the Spartan. I carry it because it's badass. When I carry a huge knife like that, I'll also carry something smaller like a Spyderco UK Pen Knife or Ambitious to use around sheeple.

I collect Case SwayBack Jacks and I rotate them every day for every day carry ~~ and most I have 2 of and the extra one goes into the Safe as a Safe Queen for the time being.!**

It differs knife to knife, so I picked 5 ounces as an Average. I carry my Benchmade Griptilian, Benchmade 890, Buck Vantage Force Pro, Buck 110. They all range from about 3oz to about 8oz. I carry these knives frankly because I work in an agriculture warehouse, so my job duties are cutting twine, cardboard, plastic straps. And those plastic straps are tough on blades, especially my smaller blades like my CRKT Ripple, Kershaw Chive, CRKT Apache II and my Victorinox. So a larger, heavier blade is my choice daily.
