What's the matter with SOG?

Just horrible...

The blade strength is severely compromised at the hole region. The Endura (it's a Endura copycat allright) is much stronger because the steel is continuous around the hole. the Sog's cutout serves no purpose and shows that they really (it's painfully obvious) don't know what they were doing, it'll snap at the slightest hint of blade flex/bend :(

Absolutely blatant copy. Not even like Darkops copying Extrema Ratio but worse, almost like zerox.

I used to be ok with Sog's folders/blades but with this they are officially off my "ok"list. This crap folder is not even fit to be given away free :(

I wanted to make sure Spyderco was aware of what SOG was doing. I now realize I should have posted it in GB&U instead of Spyderco's forum. Sorry for my goof.

I started the other thread, in the SOG forum, to give them proper feedack on their brilliant:rolleyes: new design.

I think that might be going a little far. It is still steel and plenty strong. I'm not condoning it or saying it is ok but it's not going to break off the first time you whip it out of your pocket.

I have a couple knives that I have waved and broken the hole removing metal. They have been used for all kinds of things and shows no signs of weakness or flex.

If you bend or break a pocket knife then it was either defective or you are way past the point of abuse.

I have an old Tigershark and Trident that I like. I can't imagine why anyone would buy one of their current offerings.

Looks Just like a Centofante III IMO.

The point and grind scream Centofante III to me. Except crappy.

They discontinue the Gov-Tac, but introduce this stuff?

Weird!

I agree the knife is a copycat of spyderco, but I will disagree with you here. I don't see how this will impact the strength of the blade in a bending or flexing manner in the least.

Them is some UGLY Chinese knives.

At least the new Chinese knives from Kershaw and CRKT are good looking. Even the Byrds look better.

Centofante III blade profile with recurve (:barf:) added, cracked Spyder-hole, Endura shaped handle, Byrd texturing, all at an MSRP higher than a Spyderco Tenacious. Yeah, SOG's got a real winner there!!

Wow, it completely ripped off the Endura handle. I guess I'm done with SOG, not that I ever bought their knives to begin with.

Hmmm. That's pretty low in my opinion. Sure, it's legal, but man that's low.

I think I need to buy another Byrd and put my Powerlock in the drawer.

Dumbest name for a knife award this year goes to SOG.

Hey dad check out my SogZilla.

opening holes on anything not spyderco that isnt liscenced makes me sick. :barf:

Er, why?

It WAS patented - the patent has since expired. Trying to claim it as a trademark is an abuse of IP law imo.

If IP really worked like this then society would come to a standstill. Imagine the first automatic transmission being controlled by one company, forever, because they claim it's a "trademark". Ditto flat-screen TVs, metallic paint on cars, automatic weapons, etc etc.

The whole point of patents is to benefit society as a whole. It's a trade: The public agrees to let the inventor have a monopoly for a while, but after that time is up, anyone can use it. Abusing IP laws means the inventor is not living up to their part of the bargain.

I think Spyderco make great knives. I think their service is fantastic. But trademarking an "invention" aint right.

I have always hated Sog folders. Now I REALLY hate em for knocking off spyderco, making it even worse by opening the thumb hole??!! wtf?!

Oh, gunny, tear up your contract now!!
