Whats the most are you willing to pay for a knife?

You'll learn. I said the same about 3 years ago. I'm now up to $140, though a few in the $225 range are starting to catch my eye.

Give it time, and your threshold will go up, even if you're thrifty (aka a cheapskate) like me.

As my taste is being refined my wallets having to really be stretched. Although most of my knives have been gotten in trades and last second sniping on E-Bay, if I were to find an Onion available I'd beg and borrow whatever it took...or at least up to 15 or $1600.

Hmmmm for some strange reason, that number keeps going up :(

I would say $1500 but those Steve Ryans do look awefully tempting...and then there's that Mad Dog Saxon short sword for $3000...

What about a TNT? *nudge* *nudge*

;) :p

It depends on the knife. So, far, I haven't spent more than around $200 on a knife, but that might go out the window at the Vegas Classic!

Depends on my credit limit :D I will more than likely be buying a Camillus cuda Maxx spearpoint 189.99, a Chris Reeve Green Beret 299.99, Rob Simonich Raven 299.99, and who knows what else but above the 300.00 mark it would have to be something extremly good.

I'm kinda like you coldsteel, 55-60 bucks but, I have been thinking seriously at dumping 110 on a BM 940 series as a 1 time thing. :D No really, a single one time thing. Then, I'm back to 55-60 or maybe I'll have everything I need then..............:) dtsoll

I keep my limit around $100 since I tend to use/abuse my knives. Theres a whole lotta choices for great production knives at this price point, including those from swamp rat knives mmm :D

anyway, high performance for low price is always a good thing in my book.

well for me, anything over $800 is, like, wow thats high!! one of my new yrs resolutions was to get that custom emerson in '03, a CQC7 or CQC8, and that will be $1500 or so i guess, so what can i say, LOL!! at least my wife doesnt really mind, i have my thing, she has hers. but in all honesty i think a knife made by a good custom maker, w/a good name, and a good product, as long as ya dont get raped on the initial purchase, ya are gonna be able to get the money back outta it (or at least the majority of it) which is better than the stock market right now (thank you lord, i got out in '97!!) and have some fun carrying the thing, as long as ya dont mistreat it. most custom makers will, for a nominal fee, refinish your knife to almost if not like new condition. pat crawford redid my KFF, bead blast blade/handle, new lock, sharpen, new belt sheath, all for $27, including shipping, and it looks 100% now. but i just enjoy the things, i am not out to make $$, or anything, just a hobby i spend too much on, probably, but i still enjoy it!!

i also used to think anything over $50 was NUTZ for a knife, unless it was gold or something, that has changed, lol

My thing is that I like to have two or three of the same knife, or I like to get an entire series at one time. That limits me to about three or four knives at up to 350 per piece. My last set was the Chris Reeve one piece range, the Project 2, Mountaineer, Mark 6 and the Aviator, all clip points and a total of just over a thousand dollars.

I think that, the longer one collects, the more there is a general drift towards better quality, more expensive knives. It wasn't too long ago that I thought $100 was WAY out of hand for a knife. I remember being baffled by a William Henry that cost $225, wondering whether it really was "four times as good" as my Buck 110. I couldn't figure out why anyone would want such an expensive knife and I was sure that, even if I had one, I'd never carry it for fear of losing or damaging it.

Fast forward to the present. $225 for a good knife does not at all seem like a lot of money. I currently own six Sebenzas (I carry and use 'em, too) and will certainly be buying more. So, to get to the point of the thread, I think that at the moment $450 would be pretty much the limit of what I'd be ready to spend. However, considering the way things have been going, I don't expect that to be true next year (or maybe even next month ... ;) ).

A couple of years ago, I was buying a bunch of knives in the $100-150 range. Bought quite a few. Wound up selling most of them, because there was no way to use them all, and they were just sitting there. Now I choose more carefully, and spend less, though the knives usually cost more.
I might go $500-600 for something I really really REALLY wanted, but it would have to be something that was carried and used alot.
Most I've paid was ~$450ea. for a couple of custom folders.
I bought four knives last year, one Spyderco, and three other knives at $200-250ea. Sold a couple of knives that weren't being used, and actually only came out $110 behind.
This year, I plan buy three knives, and spend maybe $900 total. Already have $500 of that covered from selling some stuff I didn't use much, and Christmas cash. So I'll probably spend a little over a dollar a day for the year. Not bad for something I get so much enjoyment out of. Not bad at all.

...unless I get weak, and give in to the urge to stop justifying stuff, and just go buy up the ones I want. Then it could get ugly:D

$400 for me, that's all a college guy can do without turning into a work and school zombie. Plus, I use mine. Most makers don't want their knives to go on without at least slicing carrots. I use em, and I keep em.

was $150 each for a pair of 25" HI sirupatis. For an EDC I might go as high as $60. I'm not so much cheap as I am poor. At this point in time $500 in parts to rebuild the front end on my '65 VW is a lot of money. I couldn't justify spending that much on a knife right now.

I too think $55-$60 buys plenty good knives, although i recently bit the bullet and grabbed a brand new BM940.....but what do ya expect? it was only $80!!! Thats the other thing, I hardly ever pay what knives are generally going for anymore, I can wait until the cows come home for that sweet deal on Ebay...I used to not be like that!
 :D

oh yes, ya can certainly get a GREAT knife for less than $100, imho one of the best deals all time was when newgraham.com had BM 800S AFCK's on for $67.50, you absolutly cant beat that deal for a great user knife, imho, at even 3X the price!!

the "good old days" lol

I typically keep my purchases under or around the $200 range, and in that price range, you can find some pretty decent custom hunters.

Production knives for the most part, except for nice slipjoints and some older Marbles, are starting to lose some of their appeal to me, so I imagine my price threshhold is going up.

Whatever you are currently willing to spend, hanging around here has a tendency to make the number go up.:)

Buy it. You will love it. Best production knife made.peirod.

Myself, Ive spent $400 bucks plus on a handful of different custom folders, but im willing to spend more if it really shines.

I too, started out buying lower priced knives. Now, I find that my price range keeps going up. Still, I have a hard time going over $600 for some reason. I have paid more, but only a few times.
