Whats the most are you willing to pay for a knife?

Right now my highest paid is just recently almost a tie, Both knives paid for this week, A Sebenza and a Buck/Mayo around $240 for the Sebenza. However if I had the cash on hand, I would pay $800-$1000 for a TNT.:)

TBG - Off topic, but where did you get your Buck/Mayo? I'd like to pick up one of those, too.

The prices of my knives steadily went up, but I think there is going to be a point (I guess around 500 $) where I'm not gonna be willing to spend more money for a single knife (unless I'll get very rich).
The reason for this is not only that 500 $ are a whole lot of money, but because I could buy 5 to 10 fine production knives or 2 to 3 excellent customs for the same amount of money.

The most cash I've ever handed over, out-of-pocket, was just at $150, for a M-UDT in '99. I've owned much more expensive knives, but they were all trades, where I combined multiple knives, and/or cash. Now, if I had the money, I don't think I could justify spending over $500, as most quality user knives are going to be a lot less than that. Anything over that is just art for art's sake, and I'm not into that.

The simple answer: it all depends.

If it is a commonly available production folder, then the price I'm willing to pay is far lower than MSRP. If it is a rare, expensive production folder, then I'm willing to pay up to MSRP, but not more.

Customs and semi-customs are a different story. Currently, I don't own a single one, mostly due to the fact that I haven't found one yet that I find to be significantly more satisfying then a production folder.

But, when I do (its not a matter of if, anymore), then probably the limit would be about half of my short term savings. Right now, probably in the $400-$500 range, but with any luck, that number will increase as the years go by.

So far, $650.

For the right piece, a might go a bit higher. I haven't been too tempted by anything over $800 yet.

Welll, due to a limited budges my most expensive knife so far is only about $160, but I would be willing to spend around $600 if I had the money available to me. More then that I still think is a little extravegant....unless it was really nice.

I have a knife waiting for payment, 225USD for the Spyderco 25th Anniversary Delica... so far thats my top... give it another year...

I normally buy in the 100USD range.

Depends on the knife, and how much I have in the bank account. :grumpy:

The most I've paid is $300, but I'd be willing to pay a lot more if it's the right knife and I've got the funds.

Around $200.00. I use my knives a lot, and would hate for anything to happen to a a very expensive knife I had bought. Most factory knives under $200.00 are fine for my needs.

i would consider $150 USD max for me. I can get some really nice production folders. I like to use my knives so customs are too expensive for hard use.

$120 can buy me either a Al Mar SERE 2000 and any benchmade axis. The $150 would include shipping... Hehe

Less than $200 so far. You can get most Benchmades for a fair price at http://www.newgraham.com and most Cold Steels for $30-60 at http://www.wholesalehunter.com and http://www.botachtactical.com

Trying to not buy anymore. Trying to have a human baby (instead of a little Sebbie), so I want to save my money to make sure that no son or daughter in my family will never have to go without a knife (after tons of instruction so as to prevent a new version of Kliff Stump's Halloween tale).

The most I ever paid for a knife was just over $300 for a custom. I don't think I would pay more than $150 MAX. for a knife. I bought a Spyderco Navigator for $30 recently and a Benchmade 770 for $93 shipped. I'm torn between which to carry as an EDC. The Spyderco proved that you can get a good knife for less than $50. I always "knew" that, but the Navigator drove the point home!
