Whats the most you would spend on a knife?

Damn, I thought I was going to be a lowballer on this thread...

Most I've spent on ONE knife to date, is $560 for my CGFBM

Worth every penny.

A lot of guys say that they'll never buy a knife that expensive because they'd never be able to use it. I'm the opposite, I won't drop that much on something and not use it.

Busse MOAB. 'nuff said. Mastercard better send me cookies for Christmas, I prefer chocolate chip. I threw away the price tag, and I've misplaced the reciept, so don't remind me. See my MOAB user thread in the Busse forum for details...

I really like Rats as well, and when the stars are aligned, I'll definitely get an IZULA, IMHO one the best neck/pocket knive bargains in that size range on the market today.

The most I ever spent was $580 on a FFBM and it was sweet but the knife went down the road alot of money yet cut no different than a lesser knife IMO.Right now I on a NWA knife kick and so far tthe most expensive was $350 and I had a Recurve made to replace the BK1. I am just down to RAT's & NWA's, not knocking other blades just keeping what works for me

I think that the most I've spent on a single knife was about $250 on a custom that I designed and had made by Ian Van Reenen. It has dyed blue bone handles, brass hilt and subhilt, mosaic pins, and he did an incredible job on the blade.

This was the drawing...

And the finished product...

When I got it, all of the brass and blade were mirror polished. I've carried it and used it quite a bit since then so some of the shine has been dulled. Stille a wonderful knife. Despite the subhilt, which if I had it to do over again, i would have left off, it's actually very comfortable in several different grips. It's great for skinning.

My big problem with buying knives is that unless they're a custom, I'll usually get a few different knives at the same time, or more than one of the same knife when I find a design I love. A lot of my knives have a tiwn brother waiting for the first to fail.

$100 tops. There are so many great knives for under $100. If you use them they're gonna get beat up. Why beat up an expensive knife?

I just paid $604.00 for the top knife in the pic. Busse BMe, my grail knife and worth every penny. It will get a well deserved workout this weekend.

I paid $450.00 for my FFBM. Also worth every penny.

I been on a Busse kick... recently I bought a Ruck and a FBMLE both ran about $750. My Grail knife is a Musso style bowie made by former American Bladesmith Society (ABS) President Joe Keeslar, it cost me $2500. Like Bill Bagwell, he is at the top of his game, and only makes knifes when he wants to. He was a very cool guy and his waiting list is about (2) years IF he wants to take your order. I justified it as buying a Da Vinci from Leonardo himself.

His Musso Bowies are such accurate reproductions, that Joe Musso, the man who owns the historic artifact, asked Mr. Keeslar to make only (10) of his antiqued versions to avoid any controversy.

For those of you who are not familiar with the Musso Bowie, it was the used as a model for the Bowie in the 2004 remake of the Alamo.

95% of my knives are users, but a few are collectables/investments....

Unless it's something REALLY near and dear to my heart, I have trouble parting w/more that $125 - $150. I use my knives so I can't see dropping much more for something that isn't going to do the job at hand any better

The most I've ever paid for a knife was $700 or so for my Busse FBMLE. Money well spent, as far as I'm concerned. I beat that knife like a red-headed stepchild every chance I get. That thing will last me the rest of my life, and probably my son and grandson after that. If I had more money, I would spend more money on knives. The sky's the limit, baby. There are a lot of knives out there that are totally out of my price range right now. If I were to suddenly to become wealthy- who knows? Who wouldn't like to have an original Scagel or Loveless kicking around?

Most I've spent to date is for a Cold Steel Titanium Ti Lite for $110. Most I would spend would be around the $150.00 range. I want a good quality knife, but one I wouldn't be afraid to use because I paid so much for it.

Interesting. I knew I liked Moonwilson.:)

Get what you like ... and ... can afford. Like anything else you buy, you can easily go overboard if you don't pay attention to your bottom line.

Performance? You can buy splendid working knives for well under $100. Custom? You can get virtually anything you'd like from a knifemaker right here on BladeForums for under (often well under) $500. When you do that, you get the very large bonus of talking with a knifemaker, learning about his/her craft, and being much more involved in the final product. I've found that knifemakers make excellent friends, by the way.:D;)

So apply a little common sense and enjoy your hobby. Me? I'm old now, but my careers have been good to me and I can afford to indulge once in awhile. I've got some great knives and some nice knives and some tough-as-nails knives, and my children (and a few select friends) are set to inherit a fair amount of steel.

I can't complain.

Y'all are die hard knife fans. But if you've got the funds i see nothing wrong with buying the best things in life. To me the most expensive is not always the best but than again you get what you paid for. Maybe one day when i hit the lotto i can join the Busse family. As of now my $25/hr job limits me to those luxuries in America. With the economy so bad i must watch my spending. IMO Rat knives are the best valued knives for its price. RC-5 will last you a life time and if you ever break it they'll replace it no questions ask. Well worth the 150 spent on that.

Well, 6 months ago I could not imagine paying more than $75 while I was into Spydercos & Mini-Grips.

3 months ago I could not imagine paying more than $135 then I got into RATs and bought my RC-3MIL and RC-4

1 month ago, I could not imagine paying over $225, then I discovered the Busse Game Warden and Active Duty.

Yesterday I bought my most expensive knife ever at $300+ for a Busse Skinny ASH1.

I have already legitimized in my mind spending $450+ on another...

I really can't find any good way to explain, but, at least its no where near as expensive as my wife's purse and shoe collection :D

I second that Trailwolf. My wife spends 3k on a damn purse like nothing. And she doesn't own just one she owns the whole damn LV collection. Thats nothing compared to what she spends on her rocks. What the hell is the point of wearing a 25k ring? Or a set of 10k earrings? Girls are crazy. Makes me feel alot better now. Thanks for bringing that up bro. Next time she yells at me for spending money on knives i'm come back bout her shit. I'm be looking out for a good busse now. Won't feel so bad anymore spending money on steel.
