What's the point of a Sebenza?

Haze cant handle the question, so ill remove it.

No no, please continue. You say one of the most well respected knife companies that wins awards every year is now "just a designer lable". You say that because other companies are now able to meet CRK in some aspects of production and finishing and have similar and in some cases what seems like "better" warranties ?

I'm not sure how that makes CRK a "designer label", I also don't know that your definition of "designer lable" is the same as mine. Given the knives are used and enjoyed the world over and CRKs are seen as one of the highest quality production knives out there I would say, no. They are clearly still a respected producer of knives as tools that will see use from their owners.

Please fill me in on your musings of the subject and why you think they are. I would also love to see your Chris Reeve knives and hear about your experiences with them, old bean. :)

Glad you trapped that quote Haze. Good show ol Chap! Maybe coping can learn some coping skills.

I would say copy and paste that on the thread I just made regarding the subject, but its not informal in any way and just biased, im not looking for that.

to save ruining this persons thread I deleted my comment and made a thread in general knife discussions.

Ummm, "informal" ... Try and use words you know the meaning of. We are also already talking about it in this thread.

Have a look at these words again if you would. :)

Thanks for the responses guys. You've all helped me analyze and organize my thoughts in regards to the Sebenza. And I'm glad I'm not the only one who ponders the deeper philosophies of what it might mean to carry a knife.

Seems to me that we are all missing the point here!

There. That clears it out!

;)

Kind regards,

I like fine objects and at this point in my life I can afford some of them . . . like the Sebenza. Built to the highest standards, using top quality materials and with a design that has been refined over the years. sure its just a folding knife . . . but its a quality folding knife.

I don't wrench on cars with any frequency but the bulk of my wrenches and sockets are Snap-On. Do I "need" that level of quality? No, but every time I use one it is just "that much" tighter on the bolt and the ratchet has finer teeth than any other I've found.

Quality not only lasts but has a higher resale value . . .

This is part of my response to basically the same question on another forum.

Despite recent drama, to get a knife from CRK that isn't near perfect is exceedingly rare. They're just that nicely made. A Sebenza is worth every penny. As much of a cliche as it is, if you have to ask, you might find it isn't worth it to you. It's just a knife, but it's a damned nice one.

I don't get this whole CRK fan boy image people like to portray on anyone who likes a sebenza. #1, this is the CRK forum. I would find it quite odd if there weren't a few fans here. #2, pretty much everyone here buy, own, and appreciate other brands. #3, the "fan boy" mentality seems to be much more prominent in the strider world, but no one ever seems to mention that. There's also a large number of people that are convinced that CRK products are trash, and that we spend $400 on them for no reason other than to be part of the group. That we refuse to admit sebenzas are trash because we're fan boys. Just doesn't make any sense.

I've used my small classic for the last 8 years as my edc. It is a valuable tool that works great with minimal maintenance. I can't say that about a lot of things in my life.
What can I say but It works.

It doesn't have to make sense, it's simply just a way of slating, baiting and other wise belittling an other group. There are always "fan boys" with any company but I don't see many in the CRK world to be honest. I see many that enjoy and like the knives but have criticisms of CRK that stop them being a "fan boy" by definition. I am one of those people and I could name more just from this sub forum. If the disparagers botherd to read anything that goes on in here they would see that criticism as well as the praise from CRK owners. They don't though, and why would they ? They have no interest in CRK and know all there is to know about them already, of course....

There simple but totally impressive to non-knife people, i also bought 1 so when i ever see someone with a knife i can inform them that my knife is vastly superior to theirs! (joking)

quick question as i dont want to start a new thread, is it okay to use any kind of oil such as motor oil in place of the CRK pivote grease? I dont want to reduce my knives life span but i oiled the pivot as i dont have grease. Does it matter in the slightest?

No, it doesn't matter. Unless you are using something like cutting past as lube you will not cause any accelerated wear. I have used every thing from oil to tuf-glide to CRK grease all with no issues.

The point of the sebenza is to be a working knife that can double as a throwing knife only as a last resort when your life is in danger and your rape whistle has malfunctioned. It also functions as a prying tool as long as you only use the tip. Also when locked open the spine can be whacked against wood in order to split it. Use your sebenza in any of these intended roles and it will not fail. Now if you'll excuse me, my sebenza's handle needs sharpening. :D

Oh my sides ! :D

What a fitting answer.

How does a rape whistle malfunction? Unless you have the tendency to frequently attract rapists, i dont see it failing!
