What's the toughest thing you have done with your Tuff?

A knife of this strength and a lockup that can handle the most brutal of tasks, I was simply putting it to use.

Not really.
You were doing a performance, an entertainment production.
Use would be if you'd used it to build something, either at home or in the woods, employing it as a tool. If you'd used it on a construction site ripping open stuff all day, and scraping, maybe opening paint cans as well, that could constitute use.
This was playtime with knives, which is okay, there's nothing wrong with that.
But it isn't an example of usage really.

Was it for entertainment? Sure. Is it the best tool for the job? Not really. But it's a folding knife that chopped through a 2x4. And if you needed to get through something big, and your Tuff was all you had, you'd know, thanks to Carter, that it could handle it. I guess I just have trouble understanding the mentality of seeing someone use a tool above and beyond what it was designed for, the tool performs with flying colors, and then you ridicule the user. Anyway, mad props Carter, good on you for actually using your knife.

I have seen a lot of videos putting folders past their limits, I didnt start a thread just to bash them. Wheres the thread making fun of Cutlerylover for cutting a small tree with an endura4. At least Xiuxiu uses his knives. I'm sure most of you have your knives tucked away safely in a drawer.

Ehh, not so sure about this. See while the act of chopping a 2x4 in itself seems useless and therefore "playing", it does mimic certain stresses that the knife would experience during "real" hard use. The end goal here was to show how tough the tuff really is and I'd say he achieved that.

Don't sweat it Carter you do great videos and these people bashing you need to spend more time using their knives and less time criticizing those who do!

The thread asked a question, and a legitimate answer was given. Was the video boring? Yes. But in all seriousness it's more (and will always be more) than almost all of you guys have done with yours. Give him a break......Go ahead and submit your answers for judgement. Show us how manly you are by cutting a piece of leather, or ripping through some paracord, or maybe even cutting some packaging tape.......or better yet show me how hard use this knife is by cutting a hair in half. The point is that it's HIS knife and he is entitled to do whatever the hell he wants with it; just like a ton of you guys are entitled to let it sit in a box forever because you are terrified to scratch it.

Then again, most of us don't need anything close to what we carry. Do you really need an S30V/ELMAX/M390 blade to slice a piece of paper? To cut a box? To cut food? Hell no you don't. So get off this guys nuts for simply answering a question that YOU GUYS asked.

EDIT: And I just noticed that we even have a moderator in on the bashing. You're probably easily twice my age, you should be policing me and telling me to watch MY manners. Not the other way around. If you want to talk about common sense fail look at your post. I'm not saying this to attack you personally, but having those big red letters holds you to a higher standard than the rest of the guys. So what you say sets a tone for how others will act around here; and essentially calling someone an idiot doesn't set a very good example. Maybe I should point (all of) you to bladeforums first rule of posting:

"First & foremost, remember the golden rule: Do unto others as you would have done unto yourself, in other words, BE NICE. When you are polite to people, they will tend to be polite back to you."

Wow, thanks for all the support guys. I had no idea I had so many people who had my back on this forum. You guys ROCK!

couldnt imagine what bladeforums thinks about competition chopping , " playing with knives like a child and achieving nothing, go build a fort" -_-~~~~

This video had a legit use- it shows us how the knife can hold up in a hard use situation- i dont know about you guys, but i dont record every cut I make with my spyderco at work

For the record, there's nothing wrong with the videos people make showing themselves doing these things with their knives.
As long as you don't cut your fingers off, making videos that entertain/inform people is just fine.

For me though, I want the input of people who have used the knife over time. I want to know if any hot-spots developed from extended use. I want to know how long the edge held up before needing sharpening. I'd like to know how it did when cutting different materials, how the lock held up to repeated cycling, things like that.
I find the input of people like Yablanowitz, who use their knives in everyday, hard cutting situations to give the input I'm looking for when evaluating a knife.

Some people want unboxing shots.
Some people want to see chopping and prying.
Some people want to see knives busted apart.

I think the internet just might be big enough for all of us. :)

Carter makes daily videos on YouTube and has close to 3,000 subscribers. He bought the knife, made an unboxing/initial impressions video, made a review, and made that video. It was just a quick video for subscribers saying "Hey, I'm still evaluating the Tuff. Review to come. Meanwhile, here's a video just for out enjoyment but also to prove that yes, the Tuff can chop through a 2x4". He didn't recommend anyone else should use their knife for that. It was just to prove a point, that the Tuff IS tough, and for us to just watch a chuckle at. The weight of the blade on this knife and the overall shape and grip you can get kind of begs to be chopped with. I wouldn't do it, but if I had 3,000 subscribers I might just for entertainment purposes and to prove that the Tuff can take a fair amount of abuse, as well as proving that I actually use and put knives to the test before making review videos for them.

And just to try to keep on topic, the Tuffest thing I've done, admittedly, is put the Tuff through a strenuous hour long Wicked Edge reprofiling/sharpening/mirror polishing and then cut up quite a few cardboard boxes. The 3V seems to get wickedly sharp. It's pretty amazing. Right up there with CTS-XHP as some of the sharpest steel I've used. My technique on the Wicked Edge is very consistent and I think I get each knife just about as sharp as possible, and certain steels do stand out as getting somehow sharper. 3V is definitely up there and the edge holding seems to be pretty good .

All the nitpicking I see around here is exactly the reason why I spend so much more time on other forums.

Said the guy spending time reading and posting in this forum?????

Sorry, I couldn't resist. It seemed at the very least, extreemly ironic.

I am with you on this Carter, I am not sure why they are bashing the vid. It was just for fun

You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. You get bashed for complaining about a scratch on your knife and you get bashed for using a knife hard. Definitely a tough crowd.
