What's with all the "Paypal only" sellers?

I realize everyone likes to get paid immediately, but as someone coming from the firearms community, I'm kind of shocked how many guys selling things insist on Paypal. Sellers insisting on Paypal, and expecting the buyer to pay the fees?? Having bought and sold LOTS of high end guns and gear over the years, all through personal check, cc, wire or certified funds and refusing to use Paypal given their anti-gun stance, I wondered why so many knife guys don't feel the same way? Are folks simply too impatient to wait a day or two for the mail to arrive with funds? I genuinely don't get the appeal. Sorry if the question has been posed before, just wondered why of all the payment methods we have to use, why anyone would use Paypal. Thanks in advance for the replies.

If there was a pro gun alternative that was half as widely used as pay pal I think a lot of people would use it. PayPal is used by millions because of a certain auction site and has a great track record for customer service and protecting it's users from fraud.

I actually brought up a similar discussion in the feedback section awhile back.I prefer USPS money orders myself.

It's secure, convenient, fast, and safe. You don't have to wait for a MO to arrive, then drive somewhere to deal with it.

Sellers that insist on buyers paying the fee are wrong, and it is against the TOS.

For me I converts my cash and it a safe way to send it . so it's better for me and the person I am sending it to . so I would ask why wouldn't you use PayPal ? :)

Politics aside. Paypal is the future, waiting for a check to arrive is for dinosaurs. Paypal is fast, efficient and safe.

PayPal protects the seller and buyer to an extent. If I sold something and accepted a check, cashed it and did not ship the item. The buyer would have to go to extremes to try and get their money back from me.

This.^^^

& Often when I'm selling it means I'm on my last dollar so I need the funds quickly. If I could wait for payment (which is rarely) I would do a MO. Even though it means it's more a of a hassle for me to cash it and if something goes wrong it's harder for both parties to correct the transaction giving refund or getting refunded for an item not as described or never recieved in mail.. I don't understand why people don't use PP for knife sales. It's more work for everybody not to use it.

R.c.s., I don't patronize businesses that are hostile towards my 2nd Amendment protections, in addition to their service being overpriced relative to the value IMO. Feeding the beast that intends to consume you is not a choice I make willingly, particularly when there are so many other methods of payment out there. Paypal is also not a "bank" in any traditional sense of the word, and if you ever have a problem with them (as I had in the past) you will soon learn this the hard way. "Paypal nightmares" are not an internet myth, I've witnessed firsthand how unaccountable Paypal can be, and how "quickly" they move to resolve a problem. Buyer beware was never so true in my experience.

I buy tons of stuff using paypal, don't ever recall having to pay fees using paypal as a buyer....as a seller yes

And how is this thread in General Knife Discussion about knives? You have two posts here on BFs and you feel the need to dig up politics that have been beaten to death here.
You are worried about the 2nd A and you live in NY? Good luck with that.

Just look at the Knife Exchange here on the Forum, there's lots of guys who expect buyers to eat the fees, it's what sparked my initial question.

I am SOL in the sale forum because I no longer use Paypal. They somehow went and found my SSN without my knowing, so I closed my acct. They want too much information, and have ties to agencies I don't believe in. :)

I'll gladly write a check, but I'd imagine most people wouldn't accept one. Lol, I might not, as a seller.

You guys are kidding right? Selling on the bay is a nightmare - Paypal has no problem siding with fraudulent buyers all the time. Read the forums; in almost any dispute they side with the buyer (most of whome know how to game the system), then ship back a brick. I can't believe people still use it so much.

There are other major players out there.. i really wish people used them more personally..

Go crap on another thread, I didn't ask for your editorial comments regarding my geography, and thought "general discussion" was a pretty broad area.

You are NOT your postcount

In Germany and most of Europe I wired money for free, lightening fast and very uncomplicated. All you need is the other persons bank account number and name. And no that info can't be used to steal from the others guys account, so it's safe.
Never used PayPal over there and didn't have to use checks ( stone age like paper where you have to write something on it and then send it in a letter).
In the US however nothing seems as cheap, safe and fast as PayPal. Maybe that will change if wiring money between bank accounts improves a bit over here.

As soon as I see the words 'net' or 'gift' in a sales thread I just close it. In my experience, 99% of the time when these terms are used people want too much for their knives. If they're gonna sweat that little of a cost and turn it around on me then they can suck it. :)
