What's you all in 1 survival tool?

That's awesome man. I can't afford knives made by smaller/single-person companies (not sure if those are custom which is why I say company) and have to go for more production-y stuff, but that is a knife that may turn me on to survival knives just on aesthetics alone.
You can get one almost exactly like the one Newt makes from Boker he licensed the design to them and they do a nice job of it too. Not as good a steel but very well done. Way less money though.

Gotta say, sounds like useful stuff... big blades are just more fun. ;)

Along with a gassed up car with a full trunk of beer they are the best! Nothing beats bashing the bejeebus outta innocent trees! Most of my knives are way bigger than they need be.

Just not really a survival scenario! And certainly not bushcraft. But fun.

Very cool! I may have to take a look at that. The shape of the blade just really speaks to me.

I have one with stag as well--there are some still available if you look to GEC's dealers. They have very still back springs; very serious pulls... but they break in nicely.

I don't know, but it would have lime green scales, a generally useless blade shape, terrible syeel, and lots of zombie strike force stuff written on the blade. Who needs utility when you can look like a swag zombie killer?

There's a difference between that type of knife and a REAL survival knife like the Ontario ASEK knife, Atleast from what I can gather real survival knives like the ones you would find issued to military pilots are specifically designed with the "All in 1 tool" idea in mind. The different features on a good survival knife won't do tasks as well as a dedicated tool but it will do the task well enough to allow the person to do whatever he/she needs to do to survive till they can get to safety or rescue comes.

My search for a good-sized two bladed knife may have just come to an end forever.....

Yeah, that's how I feel too--the #23 is nice but closer to the buck 110 size... and the 73 is good--but the 42 is just right!

I equate your ? Like this. If I'm in a situation such as the show naked and afraid where you have your Johnson in one hand in my other I would choose my roselli axe. It's just a better tool for all I believe and a better weapon to deal with any boisterous critters that have lost their natural fear of man.

I found a really cool #73 on a famous auction site but the bidding is already at $40 and there's two days left... likely have to let that one go. But man the handle on that thing...

I was going for one of those warhammer posts you asked for, but ok.

I don't believe a survival situation where you lose all forms of clothing happens often but still an interesting situation and tool choice non the less.

So how often do you figure you'll be in REGULAR survival situations?

There is no all in one survival tool. Just accept it......

Yeah, I've been watching those... I picked up a prototype #25 barlow last week--it has "horse cut" antiqued bone, a main spear blade, and a small clip secondary. The whole knife is tiny but surprisingly robust and useful. I have an ebony 73 trapper and a cocobolo single blade 73 w/ a liner lock:

My apologies and for the record now that I thought of it I would really REALLY love to see someone try to go on a bushcraft outing with a spiked sledgehammer as their tool.

It's fine, I can see how you could think I was making fun of survival knives.

Challenge accepted, but since I'm a bit short on dough, a sharpened stick duct taped to the side of an old rusty hammer I found by the road will have to do.

Congrats man, those are amazing. Smooth handles really appeal to me. I like stag/jigged bone etc as well, but I'm really into traditionals with pretty smooth handles like that. They're just awesome to hold, much more use.

Not that often but I believe you would be in a normal survival situation more often then in a situation where you are running around hoping you don't run crotch first into a bush with thorns because you somehow lost your pants,Also I'm not trying to prove there is a definitive all in one tool I think you missed the point of this thread my good sir.

And apropos of the OP's thread--any of those would be fine in the bush; they are tough and with a smooth river stone, easily re-sharpened.

here are the bigger GEC 23's--they would be perfect for emergency situations:

and a single blade liner lock
