whats your all time fav sandwich?

I'd never refuse a cheeseburger but my all time favorite is good cheesesteak with fried onions. Phillips on 23rd and Passyunk Ave make em perfect. Thin ribeye steak fried flat and fast, good Italian roll and onions that are slightly caramelized on the outside but still crunchy with some zing. Add some fried long hot peppers and you got yourself a sammich..

If burgers count then it's a big Cheeseburger for me. But if burgers don't count then it's got to be that "day after Thanksgiving Turkey sandwich" with lots of mayo. Man, I wait all year for that!!! :p :p :p

ALL sandwiches are great. I can't think of too many I wouldn't eat, or actually too many I wouldn't consider delicious.

Below are some classics, some are cheap and sleezy, some are mainstream and overrated, some are perhaps haughty, and some are obscure.

Peanut butter and jelly-- especially grape, sour cherry, or wild blueberry jelly. Always served on cheap white bread.

Bologna-- again, always served on cheap white bread, with plenty of French's mustard. A bottle of root beer goes great with this pedestrian sandwich. (American bologna is foul by the way, must have German bolgna.)

Salami-- hard salami on sliced Italian bread with a slice of provolone and French's yellow mustard.

"Salad" sandwiches-- take your pick. They are all ridiculously delicious. Egg, ham, tuna, chicken, seafood, and all mixed with minced onion and minced red pepper and Hellmann's mayo.

Peanut butter and vidalia onion-- slice the onion thin and pile on the PB, served on quality white bread, along with sprinkled black pepper.

Veggie sandwich-- thin-sliced tomato, cucumber, green pepper, onion and lettuce with shredded carrot on a bulky roll, with plenty of cracked pepper & parmesan dressing.

Roast Beef-- rare RB sliced thin and piled high onto freshly baked wheat bread with lettuce, tomato, green pepper, onion, sprouts, and hot peppers, with Hellmann's mayo. NO cheese.

classic Hot Italian-- cappicola, baked or boiled ham, salami, provolone with shredded lettuce, tomato, and green pepper on a hard Italian or French baguette roll with "submarine" dressing.

Turkey-- fresh sliced turkey breast (from an oven-roasted turkey, still warm) with lettuce served on a local bakery rye with Hellmann's mayo and plenty of black pepper.

Sole-- deep fried sole filets on a white bulky roll with lettuce, sliced red onion and a good quality tartar sauce.

BLT-- served on whole wheat toast. Always a classic.

Western-- fried egg with onion and peppers on fresh white bread with a good dollop of ketchup.

Grilled cheese-- one slice of American and one slice of cheddar on buttered bread and grilled in the griddle. Do not burn bread, but make sure cheese becomes gooey. Easier said than done.

"Orgasmo" sandwich-- freshly sliced natural turkey, crisp bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo served in a Portuguese roll and grilled. Portuguese rolls are nutzoid delicious and may be taking the sandwich world by storm within the next couple years.

Club sandwiches-- always a favorite, especially with bacon.

Pastrami on rye with plenty of creamy coleslaw-- self explanatory.

Ham & swiss-- ham and swiss cheese combo is good on ANYTHING, including doggie poop.

Turkey & swiss-- great on a bagel, with french onion chip dip as a condiment.

Steak bombs-- enuffffff said.

"Weirdo" mini bombs-- one fat, breaded onion ring with nacho cheese spread in a dinner roll dipped in au jus.

Corned beef-- shaved thin and served on rye with brown mustard and a serving of coleslaw.

Open faced breakfast "sandwich"-- one freshly cooked Belgian waffle with Canadian bacon, melted Vermont cheddar cheese, creamy horseradish sauce and freshly shaved cold canteloupe.

I love sandwiches but eat them rarely these days.

My all time fav list (because there really isn't one best one) is as follows:

If I could only have one it would probably be rare roast beef with Jarlsberg swiss and mayo with light tomatoes and lettuce from the Bay Cities deli in Santa Monica.

I'd also want the occasional Sky High which is good pastrami and corned beef stacked with swiss and Russian dressing on Rye.

Then there's the meatball and cheese sub. These can be all over the map, but a good one is great.

There's also the Pulled Pork BBQ sandwich. Like the Meatball, it can vary widely, but a good one is unbelievable.

If in New Orleans, I can't think of anything better than a sloppy roast beef Po Boy. Mmmmmmmmm......

My last choice and one of my all tie favorites is the Tuna Sandwich. I like it on white or wheat, preferably with chopped celery, onions and a little pickle relish, but never any mustard!

If the bread's toasted it's that much better.

Egg (over easy) between two slices of whole wheat, spread with mayo and a thick slice of sweet onion. It don't get any better! :)

Here's a favorite... Oyster Po'boy "The Peace-Maker"

About 6" chunk of french bread, a half doz or so lightly breaded and deep fried oysters, freshly cut tomato slices, lettuce and schmeared with homemade remoulade sauce-Louisiana style.

Someone's been reading the current issue of Maxim magazine. They have an article on the best sandwiches from around the country. The PeaceMaker was one of them.

A Philadelphia pizza steak
Ya can't really beat a really good cheeseburger+ a side of onion rings

One of my favorites is a soft crab sandwich..2-4 fried soft crabs (depending on their size) lettuce, tomato, Miracle whip between two slices of white bread.

Another is a steak sandwich, made with leftover grilled or broiled steak, with onions and mayo on white bread.

1. The Bambi special. There was this deli that used to be on Governor's Island in NY harbor, right by the ferry terminal. They had a bunch of sandwiches, but the best was named after their loud, overbearing counterman, Bambi. Roast beef, provalone, 4 strips of bacon with mayo on a hero. I guess I'll never have another one because the base was shut down years ago. :( (I suppose I could make one myself, but it just won't be the same.)

2. Roast pork with Grey Poupon on toast. Simple but satisfying.

Actually, it's a recipe in one of my favorite cookbooks... "Lagniappe- something a little extra special" Louisiana cooking. It's a cookbook written by the deceased Walt Mazur. He ran a restaurant in Chicago in the early to mid 70's, then moved "up north", as in Manitowish Waters Wisconsin and opened the Blue Bayou Inn. The restaurant is still there and is an amazing place for some excellent food. It is only open seasonally, but definately worth seeking out.

Ooh, I forgot another favorite.

Egg and pepper jack cheese grilled on thick sour-dough bread in a griddle.

Crap, I'm hungry. :grumpy:

There's not one sandwich anyone has mentioned that doesn't sound great. I would eat them all.

Except I don't do Miracle Whip.

WOW WOW WOW !

That looks amazing @!

I don't have a favourite sandwich, but yesterday I toasted a sandwich which had cheese, fish eggs and salsa. Wasn't too bad actually !

It's gotta be the Rueben for me.

Second is Peanut butter (Jiff extra crunchy, no substitutes!), butter, honey, and bananas (preferably ripe) on toast.

In Mexico we have "Torta" made from a particular Mexican bread called "telera" or "bolillo", can be filled with almost anything edible, usually spread with fried beans, some kind of hot peppers and kind of greasy, third world fast food, I guess.

I´m surprised to notice that no one has mentioned Lox and Cream Cheese on a Bagel.

My favorite is grilled ham and cheese. I love all sandwich meats except for salami. Also, lettuce with sliced cucumber and tomato with a little mayo or salad dressing spread on the two pieces of bread tastes very good. It's best on french bread.

Tortas are great and so are sopes but right now I am craving a BLT with avocado and mayo on white toast. Yummm
