What's your "beater" 2015

How do you like that serrated Native? I've been into other brands lately but a serrated Native lightweight keeps popping up in my list of next knife to get.

Bought one of the old ones, like the one above, in a B&M the other day for a buddy. I loved it! I would have gotten another for myself if they had one. I have cruised the internet for one several times since then but haven't pulled the trigger. I would definitely recommend it though.

I carry and use all of them. The Tuff probably gets the most raw abuse, though.

UGGGHHHHH....I want a Tuff so bad!! I found one still available at a shop but I just don't want to drop that much money right now. It is a super cool design though!

None of my Spydercos are beaters. They cost too much for that. And I've only got one of each I like so....I use cheaper knives for heavy work. I did have some enduras that got beat to crap, but I don't have them anymore.

Ontario rat 1 is my dedicated work knife. For non work beaters my digi para 2 and my manix lw

All my knives are users. The only ones that don't see hard use are C42 Vieles, C22 CF Walkers, Phoenix, an etched Cricket and my CF Caly 3.5 hasn't really met any hard use yet. The Salts get what many would call abused, but the sharpen up easily and apart from lots of scratches still perform like new.

I'm carrying a Cara Cara 2 as my beater, only a little use so far but it's perfect.

Light, thin, ergonomic, long, choil, one-hand open and close, stain resistant, flat ground, and cheaply replaceable.

I bought it because of the constant praise for the Byrds, and I like it so much I have a G-10 Cara Cara 2 and an Endura 4 on the way.

The yellow ones get beat up the most frequently.

This past summer I used my Delica ZDP in the garden instead of my Mora.

I wanted to see how that thin slicer in ZDP would hold up. For almost 2 weeks I did nothing but wipe it off on my pants leg. No cleaning, no oiling, no sharpening. Very impressed. Admittedly, there were a few 'prying' tasks I passed on and used the Mora instead. ;)

We repainted and recarpeted the house and I used my Manix2 S110V to cut up a couple hundred feet of old carpet. It laughed. Nicked the edge a little when I hit the concrete slab a few times but they sharpened right out.

Many awesome replies here! Thanks for playing along :-)

When I say abuse - I don't mean used as a chisel or anything like that ;-)

I use all of mine. Favorites are Military, Para, and Endura. I started carrying my super blue endura three or four months ago and just haven't been able to get it out of the pocket. Sharpened it up yesterday in between all the carving knives and its good to go for a while longer.

Agree, all my Spydercos are users, but none are beaters. My most used and scratched up one is the superblue Stretch. The alox SAK in my left pocket has a much harder time, and gets all the prying, scraping, drilling, twisting or dirty tasks.

Dragonfly salt, the only other knife that gets even close to it's carry time is my DPX HEAT, two of the best Big - Little knives.

I have had a lot of beautiful knives but occasionally purge them all in favor of knives I actually use. The only Spyderco I have right now, in fact the only modern one-hander I own, is a SE Native. Pinned linerless construction, inefficient slicing grind, but doesn't flinch at any task.

I bought one of those older se Natives the other day for a friend and got to play with it all day. I really liked it. Its a total user!

For the past few years I've had one "GO-TO" designated "beater" is my original 440V, full SE Native model. I discovered how much rigid punishment that knife can take when faced with a job back in 2009 >> because I actually had pre-determined that the knife was going to be trashed out. Much to my most pleasant surprise the knife accomplished some really nasty and brutal work and came out with not much damage at all.

I can also attest to the 440V blade steel because it seems to have a capacity for punishment like few steels I've ever dealt with. I still like 440V for hard use and would love to snag an older 440V Military model at some point.

The GOLDEN USA made NATIVE is my ultimate 'BEATER" blade.

U.S. Army issued me a Benchmade 9050 about 12 years ago. When I got it I decided that I was going to beat the tar out of it to see how tough it was.

Still going strong, sharp, and fast. This thing is a beast.

I call it more a summer beater than a annual beater. I have been using the heck, I should say Neck out of a my Dark Earth ESEE Candiru with a RicFlair edition para cord ghetto weave grip. I got it kinda late in the summer to replace my destroyed Boker beater neck knife. It got blasted by the riding mower by accident.
I have to have a neck rig for summer duties. Fishing, camping, cooking and so on. The ESEE didn't see too much rough use yet. But, I dulled it out cutting sheet boards of foam insulation. Solid performer so far. I like the feel in my hand much better than the Boker. I can't find what model Boker I had. It was a blow out deal at BHQ.
I use a Cu ball chain with the Candiru. This way no rust.
