Whats your best deal you ever got on a knife?

I got a Buck/Mayo TNT for 99.95 at a local sporting goods store. It sat there for well over a year for 259.00. No one who knew anything about knives would touch that price, then they lost the paperwork on it and..... 99.95 :D

Witnin the last three years or so:

Bought a mint Busse Clip Point Desert Natural Outlaw, one of only 14 made, for $241 on E-bay.

Bought a new, unused large classic Sebenza at a gun show for $275.

A Busse public defender, mint, for $175.

A busse Satin Jack, mint, for $200.

A mint Busse Steel Heart E for $200.

I got some great deals on SAKs from the national distributor here that lets me go through the excess SAKs that sit in his storage room for too long. I got a Timekeeper, Altimeter Plus, 100 Anniversary Spartan and 100 Anniversary Swisschamp and lots of other Victorinox knives for well under their retail price.

At a flea market I scored a fantastic vintage Wenger SAK with a great tool selection and very useful size (a bit bigger than the 93mm alox, yet smaller than the 108mm Safaris) and a red Safari Trooper for around $20 (both).

Still some of the best deals I've gotten were from local custom makers, I met some at several knife/gun shows where I was working and got some awesome knives for excelent prices. For example, a very nice balisong with brass handles and a 4", spear point, 440C blade for $25 or the cutest little capper with an ATS-34 blade, maple burl handle, nickel silver guard and sheath with lizzard skin for $70.

I picked up a discontinued Gerber pen knife for $3.00, and a Joseph Rogers & Son 4 blade congress with stag handles for $30.00 (this knife turned out to be made in the mid 1800's)... :D

A pair of Spyderco Ladybugs (used) for either $1 or $2 each, I forget.

Used Benchmade AFCK at a pawn shop for about $35

G10 Spyderco Rookie, completely new in the package, at gun show for $40

Stainless Rookie with scratched handle but untouched blade, $33 on ebay

Kershaw Whirlwind for $19.99 @ Dick's Sporting Goods.

I had a coupon that was good for $20 off any purchase over $100, so I bought six of them! I also got a Spyderco Sharpmaker for $19.99. I love clearance sales!

i have 2 best deals.....

*emerson collectors association persian tactical, with a zero bevel grind hand made blade, for $200. when i first saw a pic of it i wanted the thing simply because it had a satin blade, didnt know about the ZBG/semi custom status, the knife sells now for about $450 or so. a great deal on a great knife imho.

pat crawford perfigo w/a satin finish blade and both the pocket clip and the stud, $275, LNIB shape. always wanted a perfigo, have a couple of other crawfords, he makes ghood stuff let me tell ya. was gonna order a perfigo from pat ($450) but kept putting it off, saw one on the forums for $275 must sell, i was the 3rd one to post i'll take it, figured it was gone, but the other guys back out and it was mine. another great deal imho.

still have both of these knives FWIW, been like 3 yrs now, and plan to keep 'em.

One of a kind Russ Easler Slipjoint for $70. Russ's slips start at $300 and go up from there, he does not make very many.

Jeff Diotte damasteel neck knife for $110 on eBay.

Rick Browne trapper for $130 on eBay, easily a $450 knife.

Just snagged a vintage Winchester Gunstock slip on eBay for $31, Cutting Edge has the same one in stock for $225. It's in my pocket today :)

Camillus Dominator for $40.

Gary Crowder single blade slipjoint for $70.

just got my CRKT hawk DOG new from ebay for $45. I know it is thick for most people's taste, but when a sharp knife that cost around that price i don't think, i just buy. :p

I have two two-for-$200 deals from here on the forums.

I got a NIB BM 730CFHS plus a Cuda Maxx 5.5 all for $200 shipped,

Got 2 NIB MT SOCOM manuals (98 vintage) for $200 shipped

Traded a NIB Boker Skywalker knife (purchased on auction for $118) for a BM 850 rec.knives special edition with beautiful pearl scales.

Bought a NIB MT Halo III for $210 from these forums, then traded it for a large Classic Sebenza.

If you can come up with a relatively large amount of cash immediately, there are lots of deals to be had.

Had a friend who won a Mini-Talon here, and traded it for a Damascus 5 inch Nealy Aikuchi (easily a $350 knife) which he then gave to me.

Wow, I guess I have been blessed, and should stop complaining.

Effingam Blackjack Woodsman for $50 (that was full price back then).

A Trace Rinaldi sharkstooth for $70...It's one of the first 40 knives that he made!!

A couple of Japanese sushi knives for 1 and 3 dollars...easily worth several hundred.
I've missed out on many deals here and on e-bay because I thought about it just a bit too long. :p

I have bought numerous classic Gerber carving knives with tool steel blades at Goodwill and Salvation Army stores for around $1.00 to $2.00, but the most amazing find was a Randall model 10 in the used cutlery section for $1.00. Sure it needed some refurbishing, but a Randall for $1.00 just left me trembling.

I'm glad to see there are other bargain hunters out there who have found the local Goodwill and Salvation Army thrift stores to be a treasure trove of often times high dollar/quality cutlery. I finally had to quit looking at the knives because we have no more drawer space for them. :o

And a Randall model 10 for ONE FREAKIN' DOLLAR?!!
That is a truly outstanding find you made with that Randall. I think that one takes the prize for best bargain.

My wife, Sue, turned me on to the thrift store scene back in the early 90's. Sue and her mom used to haunt the local thrift stores here and they would sometimes come home with stuff that would drop my jaw. :D

I guess I owe that deal to Fred over at Knifeoutlet. I didn't know at the time I just read that the Viele II folder by Spyderco was a good knife and thought I'd like it and after seeing it on his site which was the only place I looked btw, I ordered it right then and there. $59.95 plus shipping for a grand total of $66 and some change to get it. Got it in the mail and liked it so much I decided to order another one and got on the web site and low and behold the price was $109.95 a few days later.

Needless to say I got in touch with Fred and he informed me that he let several go at cost before he found the error. I offered to return it to him or pay the difference and he refused to his credit. I've been a loyal customer of his ever since.
