Whats your best Slicer?

I almost forgot to add that the KaBar Short Heavy Bowie I've got stashed somewhere is an excellent slicer, even though it's massively thick.

Bg-42 Military for me, hands down. I don't have anything else that has come close.
My Spydie lava is probably a close second followed by the Microtech SOCOM that I used to have.
While I love my Sebenza (and it is my edc) It doesn't compare in slicing to the Military.

I got my military in the mail yesterday and I'd have to say it takes the cake. The only other knife that I have that comes close is my spyderco para-military. Both can push cut paper very well, but the military has that extra blade length to add to its slicing ability. Its by far my favorite spyderco as well, but that's a whole other thread :D

Perhaps you can enlighten us as to what would qualify a knife as a slicer? In my ignorance I thought it was the sharpest knife in our collection. The one that requires the least amount of force to... well... to slice.
thinner stock and deeper grinds. it starts with a sharp edge, but if the stuff being cut is any thicker than the height of the edge, then the rest of the blade geometry matters tons. Won't make a difference on string or tape, but cutting through a roast will change things

Mmmmm, interesting so far fellas. I have a few knives that are sharper than my Caly3 but cannot equal it in terms of slicing. I read somewhere that a certain Knife Manufacturer tried to thin out one of his prototype knives with the hopes it would make a better slicer but he found that the thickness of the blade for him did not make a big difference to its performance.

MMMMmmm Krein'ed ZDP Caly 3 reprofiled on my Edge Pro at the lowest setting :D With a nice little micro bevel because with out it, I was chipping out.

And some pre micro bevel pix. Remember this was sharpened stupid low to see what ZDP would do. This is not Spyderco's fault or bad heat treat. Just me goofing around getting stupid ;)

So-Lo, Nice regrinds! How much of a difference did they make over the stock knives when it came to slicing?

A ton! Well worth every penny! Tom is a great guy, he calls you when it's done and will chat with you like you knew him your whole life

Does a great job, and the knives are fun to cut with  Another huge reason for Krein'ed knives coolness is sharpening takes seconds. Look how thin the edge is, it does not take any time at all the bring them back. The thinner blades also seem to hold a edge longer  Maybe it's because it glides so easy through what ever your cutting that the edge does not take on damage like it does with a thicker bevel?

I don't know but if you have a knife and are thinking about doing it. Do it! If Tom's not busy the knives are done and back in your hands in days. Not weeks or months... Just give him a email and ask what time would be best to send them.

Sounds great! I'll be sending him my Small Sebenza soon....Thanks!

It's hard for me to choose which is my best slicer but I guarantee it is probably a Spyderco or Mcusta of which I have MANY :D

For a fixed blade it would have to be a custom from Bill Buxton. For folders I have a Korth that is wicked sharp.

I just ordered two Shallots in 110V and I am curious to see how they fair.
