What's your camp knife?

Either an Ontario RD6 if I want a "heavier" duty knife or the Gerber Strongarm for the "lighter" one.

I always carry a Mora Companion HD as a backup/food prep knife.

I usually have a folder on my pocket. Usually a Spyderco Endura.

Nothing fancy or expensive but they get the job done.

I recently picked up a Busse Steel Heart Ergo 2 as my woods/camp knife. Haven't gotten to try it out yet, but soon!

In the past few years, I've also used and enjoyed an Ontario Blackbird and a Kellam Falcon Puukko (or just used whatever EDC folder I was carrying at the time).

That's a very nice knife.

Nice knife, but let's talk about that millennium falcon background you have

It's one of the endpapers in Sculpting a Galaxy, an awesome book about the model shop that built all of the original Star Wars ships. One of the best Star Wars behind-the-scenes books I've read.

If I'm car camping, we keep a cheap Kai chef knife in the kitchen kit for food prep. If I'm backpacking, it's whatever I brought in my pocket (if I have my crampons, it's a leatherman. If no crampons then it's whatever I was carrying when we left). If I'm hunting I'll bring a boning knife with the kitchen kit to camp, and a buck 110 (usually) while I'm out hunting.

Becker BK16 and BK4 usually get the first nod. I have yet to find a knife related wood-craft and camping task that can't be accomplished with that combo.

A wood-hungry pack of Moras are always close at hand and many times make their way into the rotation as well.

Car camping offers a chance for me to bring more stuff. Like Rachael Ray's budget, lightweight knife set. That gives me a bread knife, paring knife, and a 6 inch Santoku. Plastic handles, thin blades, CrMoV steel.

If I am not car camping, I use whatever I happen to have on my person but I did purchase a Benchmade 162 Bushcraft as a camp knife. Never have taken it camping yet.

Some people don't like the handle because they say it creates hotspots, do you have an opinion on it?

Survive GSO 5.1, Carothers HDFK, AD knives BC5, or a Z-Finit blade from Shannon steel labs if I'm at the beach. If I'm actually camping, I like to have one smaller, and sometimes one larger to bring along with one of those mentioned.

Camp knife.... same as my woods knife. It is and possibly was a Dozier Pro Guides knife, but I just got a new BRKT Wilderness Explorer model as my new general woods knife. Have yet to cut anything with it. I tend to like a fairly straight forward sabre shape similar to the BK-15. I'll always have a folder with me for small cutting and quite frankly that's most of the cutting anyway. If I'm car camping, I will have a Mora along for food prep.

I have several of Bill Siegle's knives and most of his make for great camp knives.
