  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

what's your claim to fame?

I bend leather, and I think (as far as I know) that I was the first sheath maker to just use kydex as retention for the sheath. Others have kydex all the way through and wrap it in leather.

Hmmm..........fame is relative. Anybody here Google themselves? Aside from sitting next to, or talking with a celebrity, what have you done?

Google search Nix Leather.

But if I search my name I guess I'm a black fella that has a jazz album and/or a while fella that plays smooth sax; I have an album there too. :D

Come to think of it, I was the next-door neighbor of the guy who created PHP... (If you look at the URL, you'll see 'showthread.php'. The .php part means the page was developed with PHP.) That was a neat discovery.

For myself, I can say that I put out an open-source project back in about 1994 that's still getting lots of use today -- almost 20 years later. That's not fame-worthy, really, but among computer geeks like myself, it provides a bit of "street cred". :-)

Spent the mid seventies working for Disney in Orlando as a monorail host. One day at the Polynesian Resort as the train was being loaded, I heard someone ask me from behind if they could ride up front in the cab, and when I turned around, it was Elizabeth Montgomery (the original Samantha from the series "Bewitched") and her husband Robert Foxworth. They rode with me to the Magic Kingdom station and were extremely nice and gracious. He wanted to know all about the monorail and what made it tick.

I watched a couple of Blue Angels air shows from the Ghirardelli (the chocolate maker) clock tower in San Francisco back in the late 90's. My wife worked for an architect that had an office in their building, and access to the clockworks was up a stairwell in the back of the office. It wasn't the best vantage point to watch the show from, but it was certainly a unique place to watch from.

I went to the "A" school for my rating (in the navy) in Lakehurst, New Jersey, and our classrooms were in the hangar that was to house the Hindenburg when it arrived here.

If I'm still breathing when I'm 74 it'll be a miracle.

Triathalons ?!! (serious ?!)

Good for you man.

As that comedian says, "I can't even DRIVE 26 miles without takin' a piss" :D

Congrats again.

yeah, I think we all just got three-upped.

i once scored 4 touchdowns in a single high school football game. LOL

Against Polk High Mr. Bundy?:D
Seriously, I played an entire season of 7th grade football before I realized I just don't like football at all.

He forgot to tell you the part about that was after bilateral knee replacements

oh, that's cheating. ;-)
That's the ONLY way you'd get me to run any distance.
And a cramp replacement. Mine always kicks in when running.

I'm only 20 so I have limited life experiences, but I did win a state-wide architecture competition in high school. :)

I've sacked Tony Romo (more than once). Of course, that list of people continues to grow quickly, so it's not as cool as it was a few years ago!

Knife related...I was at the knife counter a couple days after Christmas at the Cabela's in Allen, TX. I asked if they carried any Becker knives and they guy asked if I meant Boker. I said no, Becker Knife & Tool, made by Kabar. He said he'd never heard of them, since they didn't carry them. The other guy working the counter came over and asked what model I was looking for and pulled out the Kabar catalog. We started looking at the Becker knives and had 3 other shoppers standing there discovering these amazing camping knives. He said he'd ask about carrying them, but since I live in Wisconsin, I didn't ask him to look into special ordering something.

Anymore info on the sacking of Romo? Did you play college or professional?

I'm pretty boring. I don't know anyone or met anybody famous. I do see a few of you guys followed my tutorial on wrapping the BK14. Nice to see I contributed something here.

I've been shot at point blank. (Gun Jammed)

I've been hit in the chest by a ricochet 44 mag. Heard it coming and put my arm up to block my face. Was wearing a Carhartt coat.

Cory Everson and her husband Jeff worked out in a gym I owned. Both had the personality of lichen. So did the world bench press record holder Ted Arcidi. He was actually very bright and funny.

Met Arnold Schwarzenegger at my local mall when he was promoting “Pumping Iron”. I was underwhelmed. He is an arrogant jerk.

Stood next to Chuck Norris while he sat in a Dodge truck and talked with him and his stunt double. They were filming an episode of Walker, Texas Ranger and it took about a week to do one segment of it in Downtown Fort Worth, TX. It was a nice long chat and he discovered that while he was in TX filming, he was living at one of my clients homes. Nice guy. Stunt double was brain dead, but damn near a physical clone.

Dated one of the final 4 Republican presidential contender’s daughter in High School. We actually were quite close for a long time and even after she moved we stayed in touch for a few years.

Y'all have some awesome stories! This is a really cool thread. It's interesting to see where you have been and done.

Here are a few things that came to my mind...

In college, I played in a band with two guys who are now in a band called Underoath. Also played a lot of shows with the guys from Anberlin, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, Denison Marrs, and Copeland during that time (they were in different bands or under different names at that time).

I also played at an event with Kirk Cameron (of Growing Pains fame) at Sea World in Orlando, and my wife and I got to sit and hang out with him for a few hours. He's a great dude, and it was a really nice conversation. I was really impressed with him.

Also got to build a house with George W. Bush for Habitat For Humanity. That was pretty cool.

Played a private event once for the University of Florida football team in 2005 (Ron Zook's last year).

I have a CD on iTunes/Amazon/etc. that I recorded back in 2001... it's not very good, though.

Nothing crazy, but cool and memorable experiences for me.
