What's your comfort zone ?

I haven't gone over $200 yet but I've only been a member here for a couple months. Yall are slowly but surely corrupting me !!

$250 is the most ive spent on a single knife. It took me a "minute" to pull he trigger. Im very comfortable spending $100+ on a folder, especially on Spyderco. I guess $200 is my comfort ceiling.

What's your price point comfort zone ? In other words , what is the amount that you feel comfortable spending on a knife before you start to feel like maybe it's too much money and the guilt factor sets in ?

I've recently got two subpar examples from a mid-tech knife maker. Quite disappointing to say the least. They were each $500. For that much money , the flaws these knives came with are totally inexcusable IMO. Anyway , I'd say that $500 is just about my comfort "ceiling" (per knife) right now
When I was actively accumulating, $100 was the number where I would start squirming. Highest I have spent on a knife was the 2013 traditional forum knife which was about $130.

In retrospect, I should have bought fewer, more expensive knives. Though to be honest, most of what I actually "need" is covered pretty well by sub-$100 knives.

For a folder my limit is $200. Unless I sell a couple knives to bump up to something better. For a fixed blade, depending on the application. I could go ad much as $250. But usually I hunt for knives around the $80-$125.

You can find plenty of great knives with quality materials, build and customer service in the $150-$250 range. That's my comfort zone. I pay closer attention in the $250-$400 range where you start to get more into want versus need. At $400+ it has to be pretty special since it's lust! :)

Approx $150 or so is my max.

I don't buy a lot of knives, and when I do, I expect them all to be used and abused. I have a hard time spending 3, 4, or even 5 hundred on a something that isn't going to perform any better than a $150-175 Spyderco, ZT, etc. out in the real world. I can understand the value that comes with craftsmanship, exotic steels, or even a specific maker's name, but that doesn't really mean much to me out in the woods.

Nice topic Wolverine. The short answer is the cost of a CRK. It's an answer to a slightly different question - it seems like $80-$120 is a sweet spot for traditionals, $175-$200 for modern folders.

I've been toying with the idea of grabbing a Praetorian T for $800. And although I can afford it , I just can't take the plunge. At that price I don't think I'd be able to enjoy using it. A Praetorian G/T for $600 is more doable but still a stretch for my comfort zone.

Then there are some nice Sebenza21's that have me curious for @ $500. More affordable and more pocket-friendly.

Two high end knives at either end of the edc spectrum. Yet I'm somewhat interested in them both.

And then there are the Spyderco Militaries and Manix2's that cost a great deal less but I thoroughly enjoy the quality of both. I'm anxiously awaiting sprint run/dealer exclusives of each. To think that for the price of the Praetorian T I was checking out , I could buy numerous Militaries and Manix2's. This makes me question what the hell I'm thinking sometimes.

I've gone over $500 twice for a folder. However its fit, finish a looks appeal that gets there. Never had a high dollar folder our perform a $100 folder buts that's just me. Buy what you like and enjoy it

I haven't gone over $100 yet. I'm a cheapskate.

Since I can't (officially) carry any knife at work (office enviro with stupid rules) I can't even carry a dressup knife.

Mine are for outdoors backpacking and dayhiking where I might abuse or lose what I have. Even there I seldom actually cut anything but moleskin or the foil on a dehydrated meal pack.
So no reason to invest in really good ones. I'm sure I'd enjoy handling the nice ones but ... I'm too cheap to buy them.

Tough question for me. I do not usually want to spend more than 200 per knife yet nowadays I find very few knives below that price point that are truly interesting to me. I do have several knives in the range of 250-350 but I think in the future I will think more when pulling the trigger for knives more than 250 per.

$100-$200 is mine.

In that range I can get a production folder with quality build, materials, and warranty.

Should I need to replace it from loss or damage due to my own stupidity, it won't be all that hard budget and availability wise.

I have spent quite a bit on knives. The only conclusion I have drawn is that the only quality that matters is how a knife performs in actual use. At some point more quantity is just more impedimenta. I think 350$ is the limit on what I would spend. It gets kind of hard to justify buying redundancy when you can use the money to do other things.

Quality rather than quantity.

The ceiling for me is usually the point at which I will have to pay 15% tax plus fees to NZ customs on the way in, which is anything NZ$400 or over, at the current exchange rate that equates to about US$285.
