What's your comfort zone ?

I have a lot of knives. So nowadays when I see a knife I want it is something special, to me at least.

The amount of $ I'm willing to pay for a knife is an amount that has gradually risen as my collection got "nicer".

I would say my limit these days are around 240$.

$350, any more than that and the point of diminishing returns seems to make itself apparent. But I still need a Sebenza...

150 to 250 is comfortable. For the right one I'm willing to goto 375 but haven't gone there yet.. I'm new to this. Don't think I'll ever have more then 1 or 2 in the higher end but no problem buying several at lower range

Flexible, I don't need any more knives, but sometimes I want one. ~$400ish on a CRK might be most I have spent on a folder.

$15. Yes, I'm serious. If SanRenMu and Enlan can sell good knives with 8Cr13MoV steel at $10 that have better FnF than $30 Kershaws and Bucks, I see no reason to go significantly beyond that.

Furthest I'm willing to stretch is $35.

You are the guy spending a third his salary hoarding junk knives. Not exactly a $15 knife if you are buying a stack of them. You could get a very nice knife that holds its value for the price of one of those hoarding sessions. But I am not a psychiatrist.

$200 is about that level for me. I've bought some as high as $650 and was tickled pink. I tend to mull those purchases for months before I buy.
Most recent buyer's remorse? Getting involved in the Survive! starter. I heard fantastic things from them, jumped on my chance to get one. Now 2 years later, I'm feeling buyer's remorse for a product I don't even have yet. It is a shame the company cannot keep even a semblance of a production schedule.

My Sebenza 25 has basically kicked everything else out of my pocket. So ~$450 for me. I could see maybe a Shirogov some day if I had a chance to handle one and if I liked it. Just too much for me to pay with handling it first.

Knife purchase comfort zone? I tend to really think about the cost on any knife over $150. At $250, I think about it a lot. Do I really need it? Is it worth it to me? What am I going to use it for? I have certainly spent more than $150 on a knife, but that is where I really begin to "think about it". My more expensive knives tend to be fixed blades which is humorous as I use them the least.

The "value" of the folders in my collection range from $25 - $800 (based on acquisition cost)

I don't know that I've identified a "sweet spot" previously, but my tastes are generally over the $200 base point any more.

That said: My absolute favorite knife in my collection can be had for $290 or so. I'll be using it as the litmus test against any future purchases. Will I like the new knife more? Does the bang/buck proposition match or exceed what I already have? That sort of thing.

Max $125, though my favs are all under $100.

But I do have a few $150~$200 safe queens.

Most I spent so far was $550
I used to top out at $150ish but now my taste have moved up and I'm doing about $300+ per knife( mostly hinderers:D )
I imagine as I get older and make more money I'll start to move into customs
Not a fixed blade guy atm but I'm sure I'll pick some nicer ones soon

Yes, Rocksteads and Shirogoro CD (still not full custom) are some I own....

Ah that explains it. I've not been sold on the Shiro's. But a nice Rockstead would be one of my dream knives. And even though they're not "custom" the polishing and the heat treat they get make them pretty damn close to it in my book.

I put a lot of thought into my knife purchases and tend to dwell on them for quite some time. I will go up to about 300 on a folder, but I mostly stay in the 200-250 range. I don't have many "junk knives" anymore. I still have a couple of case pocket knives that I carry in case someone absolutely needs a knife to use. As far as fixed blades go, I will spend up to about 500. That will also include the custom sheath to go with it. I have also been known to get a production knife customized to make it fit what I want. They usually run 300-400, but I am always eyeballing the customs in search of that "perfect" blade. I am sure my taste will change and I will spend more and more for higher quality customs

$200 or less is my comfort zone. More than that it has to be a very quality knife, or something in it I really want. Most expensive I have is a William Henry that I got for $500 new. Few more over $200 (all folders). All my knives are users. Have a baby on the way so have to hold off on any new purchases for now.

Being on SSI retirement these days, I usually spend $20-$50 on tactical style folders. I did sell off some stuff and buy a couple of $100 Ontario XM's recently. I have a mint used Kershaw Skyline coming for $25 and a new Kershaw Link for $35. I'm broke for awhile. LOL. My most valuable knife is a Benchmade Model 10 Balisong butterfly knife that was kindly given to me by a member here, just out of the blue. Wasn't looking for one, but I own it now and it is the centerpiece of my collection for a bunch of reasons. Mostly his kindness. This forum is a great place with great people. I have always practiced "passing it forward" and indeed I will do it again when the opportunity presents itself. Oh yea, I forgot. I am spending a little more , $10 shipped for some gray custom scales for the skyline and a gray mummy knife lanyard, which I already have. Yep, I still call them knife lanyards. My dream knife for my collection is to someday have a ZT folder. I know, I know. Quit buying cheap junk and save up for a ZT. I have just not been able to do that it seems. The devil makes me do it.

Folder--300 or less. Considering what you can get in the 200-300 range these days I just couldn't bring myself to go higher.

Fixed blade--unlimited, since this would include large swords which can get quite costly.
