What's your cut-off point?

The most I'll go is about $600, unless its something that I really really want, then I might go a little more.

There are so many quality knives around the $60 - $120 price point I usually am somewhere in there. But I don't ever see myself spending over $200. I do use the used market a lot also.

For good productions; CRK, WH, I'll go $400. For customs $800. Customs are pretty hard to unload if you find out they're not your cup of tea but are easily traded. High end productions are easier to convert to cash and even easier to trade.

WOW! You guys must have good jobs. I am a bum on disability so my limit is $60 including shipping or tax. Normally I try to keep it under $50. I think one or two I went to $58. I shop the clearance section of dealers Like Shephard Hills. Get some good deals. I guess I could spend higher amounts, but I would have a one or two knives. If I had a better income of course I would spend more. But this is where I draw the line now.

Interesting topic:thumbup:

For production modern designs about $150 is my limit, but I prefer to stay around $100 or under--There are a lot of great modern designs in this range if you shop around.

Production traditional (slipjoints) about $60, but rarely do I find one that suits me:o

Custom (Slipjoints)--For EDC about $300 is my limit. For my modest collection up to $1000, but rare.

The most I have ever paid for a knife was $56. However, if I ever found an absolutely perfect knife that I know I will love, I would be willing to pay up to $150 (I have been eyeballing the Spyderco SuperHawk for a while now).

The most I would spend would be $150. I'll be too paranoid using a knife that's more than that.

I got around eighty or so in the 50.00 to 150.00 range, never paid more than 150.00 for a knife, I collect vintage production and lately new production folders like Queen, GEC and Schatt & Morgan.

What pops into mind for me is the XM-18... I'd LOVE to try one out, but I just can't make myself pay $500+ for one... MAYBE if they had a nice thin grind like a Sebenza or even as thin as an SnG... but still... One can get a pre-loved Lg Seb or SnG for $330, and there is a pretty big difference price wise and not a HUGE difference in quality vs. the XM-18. I really don't see myself NEEDING the more robust design(?) of the XM-18. I would LOVE to try out a Terzuola custom... but then we're heading up to the $800 range, and I buy knives to USE them... and I cannot see a difference in USING a Terzuola and a Sebenza...

There is always a nagging thought of GETTING what I pay for... I'd LOVE to buy a custom Sodbuster, but then I'd pay $200-$300 for a knife that is simply well made and not necessarily a robust user like a Seb.

I know what I like and I know what I'll pay for what I like. I think the Sebenza and SnG are WORTH what they cost... and I'll gladly pay the price... I'd buy another (sooner or later) if I lost one of them. I feel like I can safely say that my spending limit on a single knife is $400...

Handle the knife in the (hopefully) upcoming XM-18 passaround. :)

I had a custom Sodbuster by Keith Johnson that I got for $250-ish. Very nice knife for the money. Without a doubt it is meant to be used.

For a factory knife, $200 is my limit. After that amount, I'll start looking for a custom.

I am a retired college instructor... it is getting more difficult to rationalize a $100 knife. I guess my most expensive was a Buck Custom Shop 110 in teardrop Damascus & flaming Koa - $172. Certainly some great buys in BM's around $160, too. Nothing over $200 for me.

Looks like I have leveled off at around $200 for folders and $400 for large fixed blades. Those price points tend to get me knives that I really like, but I'm not at all afraid to use them.
