What's your Deer hunting blade this year?

Last year I used a RAT/ESEE Izula for field dressing, and while it did the job just fine, I think this year I will go slightly larger with the ESEE RAT Pack RC-3.

Of course since I'll be hunting with a firearm, I'll have some SAK along for the tools just in case.

What's your venison slicer this year? :)

Tough call, a buddy and I were talking about this very same thing just a couple of days ago. I'm not sure which blade would get the honor, but if I had to make a solid guess, my Fiddlback Hunter would probably be the one. We'll see here in a couple of weeks, lol. Moose

I'm gonna take my HEST this year...and hope I get to use it. Deer have been tough here last few years....

but...in a bit of a trade off...Ducks have been better and better last few years. :)
Either way, the honors go to my HEST this year.

My hunting knife is a Busse muddy colored Active Duty military overrun that I bought here in the exchange a few years ago. I carry it in a brown leather sheath on my belt. I stripped the crinkle coating off and the edge needs a little work because it was originally concave but it was dull when I bought it so I put some serious elbow grease into it with a Sharpmaker instead of keeping it concave with a mouse pad & sandpaper set-up. I want to send it out and have it satin-finished and sharpened by someone who really knows what they are doing. A side question I have is what type of edge do you prefer for your deer knives. Convex? V grind? Scandi?

Well, all my knives except one has a V grind. My Hunter is convexed. Go figure. Moose

My beloved Wyoming Knife for gutting/skinning/processing work and my Vic Hunter for everything else.

BTW: My Hunter's "gutting blade" has never been used for that purpose, nor was it why I wanted this particular SAK but I may let it taste some flesh for the 1st time.

First and foremost is my Randall #11. It has been processing dead animals for better than 20 years now. O1 Steel, and holds it's edge.
Second blade is by Tim Olt, in CM 154 steel. So far, it has cleaned two hogs and some small game. It won't have any problem with deer.
Third blade is also in O1 steel. It is by Lance Ockenden over in the UK. Better known around here as "Driftwood". This is an amazingly ergo friendly blade, and as they say, sharp as a razor.
All of these blades are right around thee and a half inches, with very comfortable handles.

Either my Fiddleback Forge EDC, Fiddleback Forge Ladyfinger, or my Fiddleback Forge Arete, going to be a tough choice. Probably will go with the Arete for field dressing and the EDC for skinning, meat cutting. The Ladyfinger is more of a bird/trout knife so that goes pheasant hunting with me!

Last year I put away the Cold Steel Master Hunters and tried my Izula and RC4 both of which exceeded my expectations. Both were used on 2 different deer and a pig.

This year I am very excited to try out the BRKT Mini Canadian. I also hope to get a BRKT Gameskeeper before season is over but I am holding out for the handle material I want. If it runs late, I will try the Bravo 1 and see how it does.

Mine is the same knife I used last year probably. It is a custom I designed and had built several years ago by a gentleman named Landon Robbins.

I have'nt been out yet this year, but hope to get in a couple days during late season here in Wa. When I do I'll have my old beat up Buck 112 that I have used as my primary hunting blade for the last 25+ years.

I gave my 110 away a few years ago, since then it's been a 4 inch CS Voyager (what I often carry) or my wonderful 4 inch Nessmuk from Tracker's Forge Bob Alderman.

Don't know if I'll get anything this year but if I do It'll be a mora carbon top q
or a bhk boat tail scandi

I'm going with folders this year. It'll either be the buck vantage, wenger ranger 151 or the kershaw whirlwind. I think the ranger would be a great field dressing knife. Especially for "coring the apple".

used my boss street saturday, worked pretty good with a thinned out edge. still a little thick. not a game dressing knife at heart but sharpness seems to matter most. i use a mora sometimes and will probably use my FFG endura at some point.
