What's your favorite and least favorite thing about being a knife "knut"?

least favorite:
1) How long it takes the hair on my arm to grow back.
2) Cost of band aids.

My father in law was giving me a hard time last night. He is really in to high end speakers and audio equipment. As soon as I asked how much his Klipsch speakers were, that was the end of the conversation.

I'm also into audio equipment, my speakers which are on the low end, cost more than most of my knives. It's disgusting.
If you look on audiophile forums, it's common to have speakers worth $20,000 for a pair. Don't even get me started on receivers and amps.

What I like is that knives are relatively cheap and what I hate is there isn't that many knife people, wish the community was bigger.

When I tell someone what I paid for my Pro-Tech. They were thinking $10 like I just bought a swap meet knife and when you try to explain the difference, your speaking a language they don't understand.

Speaking of 1)....my wife gives me grief for my bald left arm so I started discreetly doing some testing on my left leg. We had friends over the other night and she catches sight of my leg and goes "have you been testing your knives on your leg?!". Busted.

Favorite: The knowledge and experience with knives. A knife enthusiast knows how to treat a knife to make it last.
Least favorite: It's becoming more difficult to discuss knives with people because they just don't understand.

Knowledge is a blessing and a curse in a lot of ways. I absolutely cringe when I see people digging at rocks or hard substances with a knife. Just like that scene from National Treasure with the brick.

One of my favorite things is that fellow knife knuts won't look at me like I have lobsters crawling out of my ears if I tell them how much I paid for my knife.

I hate having to refuse letting someone use my knife.

My boss has asked me many times to use my knife, and I'm usually carrying a Rockstead Chi.

Boss: "Hey Tyler, you got that knife on you?"

Me: "Yeah, uhhh... What do you need cut?"

I find it awkward, since he's technically the one who bought me the knife, since he pays me:D I wanna bring up the details about my Chi to him, but the situation is never right for me to start bloviating for 10 minutes about 65 Rockwell hardness, fancy grinds, and mirror polishing:D

Forgot to add my favorite- that is using the knives, of course:)

The Cold Steel Kudu was made for this. Super cheap, super light (a bit long, but light enough you can really forget about it) and it'll cut whatever your boss and other non-knife people need.

Favorite-probably having the hobby itself. I think its a healthy, original hobby, that isnt a huge waste of money. Most of them keep their value pretty well.

Least- having to worry about any legal troubles, although it hasnt been a problem yet. Im pretty discreet about my knives around 'common folk'.

Hi!

Favorite: to play with my knives out in the Nature and the knowledge I get about tools and techniques/skills.
Less favorite: the really excessively severe and tough legislation about EDC carry in urban environments.

Funny thing is that most times when somebody asks to borrow my knife it's not exactly to cut things but to do unsavory things like scrape stuff off glass or pry something open.

My favorite thing is that I always have a cutting tool with me.

My least favorite is that this thing of ours never ends. Thinking rationally, I have all the knives I need or ever will for eternity. So why am I always looking for the next one?

Favorite: all the cool designs and inspirations for various models and ingenuity and just plain good craftsmanship that goes into a good knife. And has to be the people willing to share.
Least: just when you think you are satisfied, another one catches your eye and the feeling comes back "one more won't hurt." And the angst in your stomach knowing you have to just admire this time.:D

LOL. I have bald spots of my left leg too 😆

Favorite) when my friends see my collection and talk about how cool it is/seeing everyone's collections and work on here and gaining an appreciation for the skills/art that goes into builds.
Least: never feeling satisfied with what I have and discovering more and more I want to add to my collection that I cannot afford to :-(

Favorite thing - There's always new knives to check out... and add to the collection.
Least favorite thing - I'm always broke because of it... Hehe..

my favorite things are the knives, and the people. a wealth of knowledge is shared here, and it reminds me there are a lot of good people left in this world. the knives speak for themselves.

least favorite, everyone with a knife thinking their knife is "better than yours" (I'm sure none of us here on the forums really care), and that we shouldn't spend that much money on something that "stupid."

very funny. busted. and yes the cost of band aids is outrageous. I feel like a surgeon wrapping my cuts. impress myself weekly.

I can relate to this! I just missed a damn hap 40 delica by 10 minutes. Damn kid needs to run her own bath water!

My favorite thing; the hunt for the next knife. I love researching different knives.

Favorite thing definitely has to be interacting with all the folks here and just knowing this place is here for all of us to be a part of.

Least favorite thing is not being able to stop browsing the exchange.
