What's your favorite Barkie?

None....bought 2 and sold them both.

handles were too slippery. how can canvas micarta end up slippery, i'll never know.....but they were able to do it.

The fieldsman (which is a huntsman without the full tang) pictured at the top - but my brother got me the woodsman for Christmas pictured at the bottom so I'm going to give him my fieldsman and try out the woodsman

Just took a couple of pics. The red handled PSK is my girlfriends, she insisted it be in the photo.

In their sheaths.

Great to see them a little messy too. Where in Brissie are you? I'm in Norman Park.

I only have a highland special, but that Bravo or the Wet Weather look great.

I am on the south side, but I work over at Gaythorne. I manage SAS Equipment (355 samford rd) , swing by if you like. i usually have a couple of my knives with me.

BillG,

Interesting comment about slippery handles. The grip on my rogue is large and square enough that I have never had a problem, but I am concious that there is no guard on it though and keep that paracord loop on it to put my hand through it during wet conditions. The loop also has the spec-ops snap run through it so that the knife can't fall out of the sheath. Slippery handles are no joke, specially on a knife as sharp as a Barkie!

My Huntsman's Micarta grip's finger area came a lot rougher in places than the others - even some file/grind marks on the tang there - in the grip area - spine was perfect. SiC W/D 320/400/600/1000 and some elbow grease, along with finishing up with Flitz polish made it look as perfect as the others. A coat Minwax paste wax on the Micarta helps the looks, too - it can be stripped easily (Dishwashing liquid, rubbing alcohol - never acetone or real lacquer thinner!). I haven't had a Barkie Micarta grip slippage problem with mine, even my smallest, the Huntsman. Certainly, I have been glad some knives - my longtime favorite Buck 192 Vanguard, for example - that made me glad they had a real finger guard.

Just curious, what makes the Bark River Golok any better than say a 12" Ontario machete?

The grind, the steel, the ergonomics.

You could get close with a lot of modding on the Ontario, but you'd have to be pretty skilled with a grinder to get the shape of the blade grind, and the handle would need considerable work. And when you're all done, it still wouldn't have the Mike Stewart heat treat of the steel.

But until Mike does the next run of Goloks, the 12" Ontario machete is probably as close as you can get - even if it is like comparing a Yugo to a Mercedes! :D

TWBryan,

Me too! I have been looking at a couple of different barkies for a while, but I am now certain that my life wouldn't be complete without a golok:D.

I got a nebula in orange and it's amazing, though the handle seems a bit small, a great shape but small. A cord wrap may be good but it might make it too thick, gotta think of something.
A north star for the next one, then I'm done! (yeah, right:D)

Lil' Bird and Trout (my only one) until my Mini & Micro get here in the next month, and my Northstar sometime after, and then..........

My favorite right now is my only barkie, my PSK w/orange G10.

Awesome little pocket or neck knife, very light and very, very sharp.

Now I can't decide on the B1 or Fox River.

I love all BRK&T..but my personal favorites are the Aurora, Bravo1 and Nebula...then the Gameskeeper. I would love to get a Golok, but Briggz bought them all:D

Take the threads out of the paracord thewn wrap the handle. Give more thickness but not as much as the regular.
