What's your favorite EDC lock up?

Button/plunge lock on my Protech TR5 SA
Push the botton, blade down, back in pocket ;)

I don't really care as long as it locks, although changing the title of this thread makes the whole thread kind of pointless now.

Whatever works. Axis, frame (Sebbie), Walker (Military), backlock (Buck 110/112, Native 5), compression (Para 2)... if well designed they all work fine. Even my nifty Manly Wasp with its stiff back spring.

:) Cold Steel Tri-ad ! World's strongest and most reliable ( that I can afford :rolleyes:) . :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

A good strong back lock. Many people assume that because there is no slight wiggle in certain locks that they’re strong but that’s not the case. This can be seen in real life but also in test after test. Back locks are consistently the strongest locks made. that would include the triad lock, the back lock with stop pin by Spyderco And there are other back locks.

Knee-jerk response: Triad!

That said, my lock preference really depends on what I feel like on a given day, or what I’ll be using the knife for. At the moment, that’s a liner lock.

I haven't tried every last lock method but for me...

1. Compression lock. Not even close competition.

Lol, that's the only lock type I can't stand. I'm pretty flexible beyond "no compression locks unless they're the Smock-style button version".

I found it slightly fiddly to operate, and have seen compression lock knives with some amount of exposed edge. Different strokes for different folks, I guess, I just haven't ever really warmed to it. Part of this is probably related to my generally not liking most of the models I've bought featuring it, I'm sure that has colored my impression.

Honestly, I absolutely love the lock on my spyderco Southard. That and the para3.

that being said, I have a vouking knife that is super nice as well.

Gotcha. Different strokes indeed. I find it very intuitive and solid. I haven't had edge exposure issues yet. About the only complaint I have for spyderco knives is how much a pain in the arse it is to tune the blade action and centering.

Tri-ad Demko lock. It’s an excellent lock. One of the few folder locks that makes me feel like I don’t have to worry about my ineptness during use.

It’s not the fastest, it’s not particularly smooth, and it’s not the easiest to dis-engage.

But it’s very, very secure.
