When it boils down to actually USING the knife I could careless. I very often use slip joints with . . . GASP . . . no lock at all.
Baring using and just talking about fidgeting now, I really enjoy the axis locks. I like how easy it is to drop the blade open, how little effort it takes to over come the spring resistance, how when the blade is almost folded the axis mechanism "sucks" the blade in when it is centimeters from being fully closed (where as the compression lock has to be within only a couple of millimeters of the point of the tip being inside the handle to suck it closed.
Two opposite examples : the Spyderco Manix ball lock takes too much effort and even my Sebenza 21 is not exactly elegant to release the lock but takes some oomph to geeter unlocked.
The axis lock just takes a whisper.
So what does that matter you may ask ? ? ? ?
It makes a difference when one's hand or fingers are damaged or unhealthy here is a LINK > > >
