What's your favorite GEC?

To pick a favorite would be to hard. I love the look, use, and even the idea of to many. To answer this question I asked myself which would be the first one I would track down if all were lost.

The first one I would find and buy again would be the one pictured below. It has the same production date as the day my wife and I brought our daughter home from the hospital after she was born. She spent a week in the hospital after birth due to complications. It is my favorite for that first day she came home.

My prized knife is this one. Love everything about it.

My favorite pattern has to be the 48. I admit I am envious of Trand's collection :)

Smithhammer - That 48 in Autumn Gold is killing me. A beauty I don't have.....yet.

Something about this one just keeps it in my pocket more than all my other knives combined. It just kind of grew on me over time. There's nothing really "special" about it. I have bought many GEC knives that were, in my mind, special, because of pattern, covers/materials. But for the most part, once the "new" is gone, they are just another thing to me. This knife somehow transcended that realm of thing, and feels more than the sum of it's parts when I carry, use, or just admire it. It feels more like a companion or friend to me. It has become a part of my life...

Interesting. I'd always assumed the purpose of using nickel-silver for bolsters was that they couldn't corrode or discolor, but it appears that may not be entirely correct.

The barlows have steel bolsters and liners.

Regards

Glad to see some love for the toothpick or powderhorn GEC. I have one in smooth white bone I picked up off the auction site for 17 bucks somehow, and while I'm not sure if its my favorite GEC (dont have many at all and right now I'm still EDCing the nifebrite single clip 15) I do think its a very fine knife. I really like how its 4 inches but looks and feels much smaller on account of the tapered handle.

Here's mine:

and below is the 15 glowing.

This one really does feel like a little buddy. It actually has some warts, slightly off centered blade, sunken scale pin, a little scale gap that i closed with superglue and clamp, and a tiny bit of play that I fixed with a tap from the mallet, but strangely these small "defects" has caused me to like it even more. It performs beautifully and there's something about a knife that you've put a little work into that makes it funner to use and carry. It makes it less precious and reminds you that its a tool and just something to carry and use, rather than a paper weight or safe filler.

My favorite pattern is the #66 Calf Roper slim. I bought one of the red river acrylic Tidioute models to toss in my pocket with my keys. It has a very nice shield that I like more than the usual Tidioute shields. I also really like the small Pemberton & Magnum jacks.

Wow, there are a lot of amazing knives here! My bank account will hate me. I finally got a chance to snap some pics.... I can't choose just one... I think ultimately, it's still the 65, but I love the others too. Now I have to decide which ones to use.

Can someone please tell me the pattern of the sheepsfoot barlow on post 41. I need one...that is beautiful any info?

That looks to be a #15 Charlow SFO. Someone else will have to name the year it came out. Either way, you won't find one on a dealer site but perhaps you'll get lucky on the exchange.

Excellent selection and composition! I'm keen on the 66 slim as well and agree with you about the Tidioute Shield on the acrylics, a masterpiece. I have the Black Pearl. Thanks, Will

#42 Trader Ebony
#72 lockback Wharncliff Ebony/Blackwood/Cocobolo
#65 Ben Hogan Ebony
#99 Farm & Field LB Black. Hate knifebrite, orange is only slightly less obnoxious. LOVE that O-1! Want more. I'd buy several 42 Trader LB's in O-1. Heck, I could retire from knifebuying if I could get a couple in nice wood like Ebony and use it the rest of my life
lastly :
#23 Liner lock Horn. It's big and heavy. I use a belt pouch with it but it's nice.

I have noticed that there are a lot of TC Barlows in this thread. I may have to try one out.

I only have three GEC company made knives (2 folders, 1 fixed blade)... Anyhow, for me and my collection tastes, I like my ebony handled Tidioute French Kate lady leg knife.
Not only is she very well made, her shape brings that extra & unique flair to the collection. Also, I do love the history of the knife's name (French Kate)... after reading about her, it was obvious that nothing less than a lady leg knife would have been appropriate to be made in her honor ;)

Thanks! I missed the Black Pearl which looks great.

The Bullnose is my favorite, with the 73 and 15 ranking high up there as well! Here is a shot of a few of my 20+ Bullnoses, all handle and pivot variations should be present int he photo.

My favorite pattern from GEC is the 2 blade 92 Eureka with spear and coping blade. I like the end capped version better than the bare end. the brass liners and end cap make for a slightly thinner knife.

A close second is the GEC 48 with muskrat clip.
