Whats your favorite handgun that you have own(ed)

I like you guys. Nice work on having a useful discussion with no issues with opinions.

I always heard, "Never judge a man for his weapon of choice - he trusts his life to it."

Caracal
compact 9mm
3.5" barrel

Designed by a guy who designed for Steyr & Glock, it is the softest-shooting poly 9mm I have ever shot and I've shot practically all of them! It points absolutely perfectly for me and is boringly acurate, not in the sense of bullseye shooting but in the sense of empty-the-mag-at-high-speed-and-tear-out-a-4"-target-at-50-feet accurate

Anytime somebody starts with "You should buy Brand X because that is what I carry" you can just about tune them out. A given handgun might be the perfect gun for "me" but the worst gun for "you."

This is why we went from the 1911 to the M9 decades ago because suddenly we had a lot of people who simply couldn't managed the large 1911 in the "modern army." One shot stop super kills where the enemies brain fell in his pants weren't much use to lighter stature individuals who couldn't hit anything with it because it didn't fit them.

By the same token the "Get a .38 revolver" and "Get a Glock" crowd who promote a "one size fits everyone" also are guilty of the same. Handguns are the kind of thing where you might have to bet all the marbles, better make sure you have the best one for you.

Ruger Standard. Followed by the Ruger Mk2 Govt Tgt from my now dead best friend. The Mk2 is my son's now.

Another was a US property M1911 from 1913. Traded it not too long ago in a deal I just couldn't pass up.

I never did understand the rancor that often enters firearms discussions. I've always felt that personal weapons were just that -- PERSONAL.

I had a paragraph typed out supporting this statement but it sounded like crap so I'll just go with a thumbs up

Currently S&W Shield 9mm
3.1" super spoon and compact, I can carry it anywhere. Though I do miss my Glock 26 on occasion.

It's got to be my nighthawk custom t3, 45 cal. and a 4.25" commander length barrel because it's ultra reliable... my life could depend on it! and it's way more accurate than i'll ever be.

And yes that's an idiot scratch.... damn it!

Full sized Euro cop spec Walther P5. 3.5 inch barrel on a good day. REally just a modernized P38. Heel clip mag release, fat slide, dual recoil springs. The 5 shot group on the 25 meter test target from the factory was around one inch using what ever kind of NATO ball ammo they had lying around. Unlike the earlier US made the PPK based pistols, it fed anything I gave it without any ramp, etc., polishing required. I hear tell that the outrageously expensive Sig P210, the big H&K P12 and the old Walther P88 are at least as accurate and maybe more so, but I have never shot one that was MORE accurate than the P5, even a tricked out Hi Power.

My favorite pistol is the first generation Ruger Mk1, I've had this gun since 1968 and have fired 10,000+ rounds through it without a misfire or a jam. This gun is a tack driver, it's comfortable and accurate.

And my other favorite CC gun is my Taurus 9mm PT111 DA only, this is another dependable pistol that I trust with my life.

10,000 rounds? Not much at all. Gotta go shooting more often Ted, that's barely 20 bricks of ammo.

Your're probably going to laugh but a Beretta 84 (not my photo, it's in my brother's safe right now as the private range we shoot at is 5 minutes from his house). It's just like this one but with smooth walnut grips

It was the first non .22 / non wheel gun that my dad let us learn to shoot with, I was probably 10 at the time. It has the fattest grip on earth like a Glock and no checkering on the grips and its huge for such a "small" gun. But I still light up whenever I see it when pulling out the regular shooters which are an xD, CZ p07 and a Springfield 1911 mostly. The CZ gets the most time out of anything for me though.

A 1969 Model 60, carried as back up to primary in RF,LR uniform pants pocket or R jacket in homemade rough-out leather pocket square. I had hammer bobbed.

Best.

Smith and Wesson
M&P9 Cabelas Edition
9mm
4.25" barrel
It is reliable, holds plenty of ammo, and looks sick with the Cabelas two tone Black and FDE color coat.

First generation had an A-54 frame. Yours has an A-100 frame (you'll note the lower left grip screw is higher that the lower right grip screw). The A-100 frame is why Mk2 mags will work without modification --- a good thing as Mk1 mags for the A-54 frame are often hard to find. The SN 227- indicates a later model. Is MkII roll stamped on the upper?
