whats your favorite hat??

My Akubra Snowy River. Especially in the rain or snow.

If its just cold, I wear a Carhart knit watch cap.

Fishing in the summer I wear a First Gen desert camo boonie but only if its too hot for the black Akubra.

I find a head full of thick, 15 inch long hair does the job for me. Works even better if I don't wash it for a while and let the grease build up. :P

Do ya use that for firestarting, too? :D

Ball cap, regular or waterproof boonie, or fleece watch cap, depending. I'm a big fan of hoods too, especially fleece-lined ones.

Red Army style synthetic fur flying helmet with flaps that can be secured on top of your head. Last night was -26c here so.....

I wear a "crusher" it's a small brimmed boonie hat, in woodland camo, just to tweak the liberals in my neighborhood.

I wear it 99.5% of the time, seldom get cold enough here for a "real" hat.

In summer my tan north face ball cap,
in winter a fur lined down filled job with the ear flaps if its real cold,
a cheap black toque if its not too bad. I lose toques all the time.

In the winter I usually wear one of the DoD spec watch caps in the "synthetic" piltrol/ wool mixture. In the summer, some sort of ball cap style or boonie depending on the situation. The boonie helps cover the back of my neck, which is nice in the summer. I am one of the few Americans to have one of the German flec woodland hats- and I like it. However, avoiding the commando wannabe appearance, I try to avoid wearing the boonie hat around town. I usually use a plain ballcap for that, if I'm going to wear anything at all.

I used to like the Russian Ushankas and the Mad Bomber hats. Actually I still like them, but I don't like wearing them all that much.

"Chocolate Chip" (old Desert pattern) Boonie Hat.

It stays cooler than darker colors, has the little vents, can be doused to cool you off, and if not washed with soap will stay pretty much waterproof.
The brim blocks sunlight from neck and face, also sheds rain water.
Newer issue have wider brims. Some like the wider brim, some do not.

It's been my all round outdoor hat for many years.

Might upgrade to Desert Digital though. ;)

Winter, wool watch cap, sometimes with skullwrap underneath.

Summer: USMC Boonie cap (woodland MARPAT) sometimes with OD "recon wrap" or in place of.

Winter: Fleece watch-cap or Balaclava if it gets really cold.

In temperate times I wear a wrangler black straw cowboy hat. It's lacquered and keeps the rain and the sun off very well.

If it gets chilly I wear a toque my mom knitted for me about ten years ago, and if it gets REALLY cold (which it doesn't around here, but if I am up north...) I wear a rabbit fur bomber hat. It's like having rabbits hug my head.

Cattail leaves (Typha angustifolia).

Doc

You made that yourself, didn't you Doc? It's cool.

I've had the same old Tilley for around 20 years, doesn't get much use anymore though, don't care for hats. I do have a wide brimmed straw hat I keep tucked away in case of hot summer outings & a felt cuffley cap for winter but mostly go without. HATE baseball caps.

I like to wear what is called a "Radar" hat, like the one "Radar O'Reilly" from MASH wore. Got a brim to keep the sun out of your eyes, and you can roll the stocking hat style ear flaps up or down as needed. When it's warmer, just a baseball type cap, or when out in the sun, a big brimmed straw or vented cotton hat. I sunburn badly. Had skin cancers removed already, and I'm 41 years old.

Just a typical ball cap in warmer weather, if its mildly cool out I'll wear my fleece lined cabela's ball cap. When its cold out my go to is definately my rag wool/thinsulate watch cap... And ice fishing or extended time afield will see the rabbit fur come out. Often with ski goggles.

i wear all sorts of different hats... beanie's, baseball hats and derby's.. but over the past few years i've grown quite fond of wool/felt fedora's.... the bummer about these hats is that they are not cheap....i have 3 and the one that i wear the most, i bought at the flea market for $3....:D

I love the flea market. Got some excellent scores at the socal market.

Picked my fedora up at a yard sale many years ago. It was all bent up and twisted from pack carry. I soaked it in woolite for a couple days, pulled it out and put it on a foam head that I used as a blowgun target and with a bit of help, it returned pretty much to it's original shape. Cost was $.25 and it hasn't been cleaned or shaped since. well..... except for an occasional dunk in the river.:D

I like the Army Ranger patrol caps with the fold down ear flaps. They have a shorter bill than a base ball cap but enough to keep the sun out but not enough to block your vision. The flaps have a light fleece type lining and is usually warm enough for S. CAlif.. If it gets colder I'll pull a beenie over it.

In summertime I almost always wear an old beat-up desert camo Vietnam-era boonie hat my uncle gave me, with wire put into the brim, to keep it from flopping. Probably otherwise the same as Skunk's. This time of year, winter, I have a current-era military cap, with a lining that folds down over your ears, not sure how to better describe it. And if I'm going to town and need a haircut, or it's overly sunny, I wear a blue Nike ball-cap.

Edited to add: That's exactly the cap I wear this time of year, FULMTALJKT! Thanks for the infinitely better description.
