Whats your favorite Mora

2000, 510 and SWAK should show up tomorrow. i'll have to get back to ya after i pick a favorite.

Pict, I think you'll like the Triflex Craftsman--BUT, I think you'll like it best if you take some of the coarsest sandpaper you can find and roughen the handle all over. I found the handle on mine was disturbingly slick before that treatment, even without getting it wet. After that treatment, I was surprised to find that it seemed like Kraton--I mean, it remained grippy even when very wet. I suspect it would hold up well even to the slime-intensive task of cleaning fish.

JD,

Thanks, I'll keep that mod in mind. Two of my former students asked me to pick up SWAK's for them. I figured I'd try a Craftsman as it was one of the few I don't have yet. Mac

I don't own any Mora's but i am interested now! Can anyone post some purchasing links? Who has the best quality, prices and selection?
:)

+1 to Ragweed Forge. They have a really fast turn-around time, great selection and prices. One stop shopping for all your Mora needs. Mac

Since mid-December, I've bought seven different Moras in laminated, carbon and stainless. As of yet, I cannot comment on the qualities of the various steels. As far as handles go, the Clipper is more comfortable and more "grippy" than any knife I've ever owned. I think all the other plastic moras are better looking, but all of them are ugly. I did not buy the 2000 model, mostly because of the price compared to the others, but also because, to me, it looks like a toy (at least on the pictures I've seen.) Do those handle colors really look as weird in person as they do on my monitor?

I will eventually get a nice natural handle Scandi, but I want to see for myself how I feel about the various steels.

Of the knives I have so far, one will live in or near my daypack. The others will be distributed throughout the house and cars. The coolest thing about these knives (for me) is that my wife hasn't complained about me buying any of them. She's happy they're not Spydercos or Benchmades.:)

Thanks for the link! I'm looking at Ragweed and Sportsmans Guide right now.
??? Sportsmans Guide won't ship bowies to Canada? Whaaaat? They won't ship ANY knives to Canada?
When i looked at their Mora their website states "WARNING:Cutlery cannot be shipped to Delaware, Texas, Puerto Rico, Canada, or the Virgin Islands. Please check your State, County and City laws for restrictions before ordering cutlery."
Ummm hello did i wake up in the Bizarro universe ? I've been collecting knives for over 20 years, about 90% purchased from the U.S. The only thing we can't ship in are bali-songs, automatic knives and spring loaded (Spetsnaz)projectile knives.
Hmm wait a minute they are saying they can't ship Bowies to Texas? Thats nuts! This has got to be some kind of bogus "the lawyers make us say this to cover out legal asses from getting sued" statement.
Are they perhaps owned or afiliated with Atlanta Cutlery/Museum Replicas? I know they occassionally put weird restrictions/warnings on their products too.
Weirdness.

Don't feel bad they won't ship knives or axes to Calif either.

Hey Guys..

Scott..

Yaa the handle colors are Certainly goofy.. They could have used any other color than that,, but NOoooooo...

However the M2K is no toy....

It is one hell of a cutter....

Oliver....

Don't deal with Sportsmansguide on moras...

You may want to check with canranger here on the forums, he is Canajun.. I'm not sure if he deals Moras anymore,, however he did have an excellent selection, and prices were excellent......

Other than that,, I wouldn't hesitate going to Ragweed at all..

And with swiss army style knives they say
"WARNING:Cutlery cannot be shipped to Massachusetts, Colorado, Connecticut; Marin, Napa, Ventura or Yolo Counties in California, D.C., Puerto Rico or Canada. Please check your State, County and City laws for restrictions before ordering Cutlery."
Thats quite a list. It would probably be easier (and shorter) to list the places they DO ship to.lol.
I guess they are afraid someone in those locations might use SAK tweezers to pluck someone to death, or even worse burn them with its magnifying lense! Oh the humanity!
lol.
That is by far the silliest thing i've seen regarding cultlery online.
They are now officially on my " do not order from these nutters" list.

Huh. I've seen restrictions like this from other dealers and suppliers. And I've heard complaints from other Canadians on BF not being able to get knives into Canada. I imagine it has to do with problems with customs. The other states have local restrictive laws enacted by local sheeple politicians. Texas probably considers the Bowie knife to be a state symbol and doesn't want any cheap imitations coming in ;)

I'm sure Sportsman's Guide (and I have no affiliation with them) and other dealers would be happy to sell knives to the Canadian market...why wouldn't they? I've had nothing but good luck ordering knives, ammo and other gear from them. But this is getting off topic.

It's interesting that people say Moras are ugly...they are butt-simple for sure...but we buy them anyway. The prices are irresistible and once we get them in our hands we realize that what we have is a very useful tool that takes a good edge, not an over-priced Ninja spec-op masterpiece.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There are many people on BF who die for Spydercos, and I'm sure they're a great knife, but they don't appeal to me.

Many of the traditional Scandi knives at Ragweed Forge are beautiful, IMHO. There's a Finnish puuko or two that will be my next acquisition.

Yep, they coulda used a different colored handle for the M2K, but an OD sheath should help it blend.:D It's actually one of the best user knives that I own.

I gotta agree Coldwood, Mora's a great edged tools and in a proper sheath like Normark produces, they look kinda cool too.

My favorite is the Sportsman's Guide Military Mora.

The problem with Sportsman guide and Canada is probably that they had a few problems with certain specific types of knives getting through customs. So they have decide "oh to hell with it" and decide not to ship there. But honestly as i said above the only verboten knives are balisongs/automatic/projectile/"knives that open by centrifugal force". SAK's, fixed blades, folders etc. are ok. Thats according to the criminal code of Canada (i did a criminology elective course last year so i have an up to date version of the CC).
Anyway enough of that, sorry for sidetracking the thread!
Well i will be ordering from Ragweed as soon as i figure out which one(s) to get!
:)

Actually, if I remember correctly, Bowie knives are ILLEGAL in Texas--and I mean, expressly prohibited by statute.

I guess they forgot the Alamo?

I see a lot in favour of the frosts clipper.
Can anyone comment their counterparts from Eriksson the 911 (946) and 711 (746) ???
I always believed the Eriksson blades where a bit higher on RC and a bit ticker?

I know the standard thickness of the Eriksson 946 (stainless) and 911 (carbon) are .098", where I think the Clipper blade thicknesses are .079". I have not found the minimal difference in thickness to be an advantage or disadvantage with any of the Mora-type knives I use.

As far as hardness levels, the carbon steel blades are said to be a point or two higher on the Rockwell scale than the stainless blades.

All per Ragnar's site: http://www.ragweedforge.com/SwedishKnifeCatalog.html

I got my Triflex Craftsman the other day. I haven't had a chance to use it yet in the woods but I like it. It's basically a beefed up SWAK, same handle and blade profile but it has the thicker blade (.098). Its also black... cause I'm a slick low drag operator... yep, that's what I am. Mac
