what's your go-to blade for the outdoors??

I have been loving my Scrapyard Yardhook for all things outdoors, from shelter-building to slicing fruits & vegatables (lacking a convenient picture here on my work computer, here's the stock photo)...

Either my RD-4 or my Cold Steel Master Hunter in Carbon V.

I am seriously thinking my next knife will be a mini-Northstar or a FI.

I forgot to add my Golok. Depending on what type of outdoor activity I am doing, I often take my Golok. Trail clearing where work and fun come together. :D

It's always a tough choice of what to grab for a dayhike. I usually take more than one. NWA is always there though, I love that one.

Currently I take my Spyderco Endura (EDC), Gerber Muti-Plier 400 (EDC), and a Mora 740-MG. I plan to replace my Gerber with a Leatherman Blast or a Victorinox SwissTool X sometime soon.

Nothing super fancy, but it works for me.

These are what I am taking through the great wilds of weirdness right now plus the SOG Multi hiding out in the sheath.

But I think the Koster Nessmuk I have coming is going to give him a run for his money.

In practice it seems the serrations are great for cutting on synthetic materials (rope, tins, barb wire) while for less practical reasoning they look awful but in a nice intimidating way.

I have used this knife so far to clean out turkey and quarter a hog. The blades penetration in to the swine was clean and easy, like a knife that was smaller, so I would say the design on the tip of the knife made for easier penetration. In the end I used a Forschner Semi Stiff to do the delicate work so as not to lose any meat to processing with the big ugly knife.

Hope that helps. In the end I just love the performance and look of this knife.

At the moment, it is my SOG Recon Bowie, but I have a feeling that it's about to change to my new RAT-7 or the RD7.

This picture has been seen here several times already, but since you asked...this was taken on a backpacking trip, it's my normal setup for such activities:
