Whats Your Go To War Knife ?

as almost everyone said here, I'd get a tough, reliable, durable folder that is inexpensive (Spyderco Pacific Salt, Cold Steel Recon 1 or Talwar) and a sturdy, strong and time proven, Multitool (I'd take a Gerber of some sort like the ProScout ir any of the MP400-MP600 series) that was built like a tank.

I join the choir and say multitool. It works pretty much anywhere, and has utilitarian value that adds more than your "combat knife".
Fixed blade should be something that 1: can take beating and scratching inside and outside the sheath (rolls, diving to ground) 2: should have secure sheath or fix (mora with ghetto rubber strap mod) 3: more functional than tacticool 4: easily detachable/attachable to your belt.
Folder: simple and tough (although you already have multitool right?).

I think you should do a ten mile forced speed march with 60lbs of kit first and ask yourself the question on the finish line.

Anything more than a multitool after that is theatre and operation specific.

I agree with that and would be my approach.

For the first dozen yrs. or so it was a Buck 110, then it was a SOG Tomcat I picked up at the Exchange in Chas SC.
never saw any use other than opening cardboard boxes. If there was ever any trouble, why waste time with a knife
when you have 2 5" 54's & a shitload of Tomahawk TLAM's

I took a Randall #15 which was on my armor, Buck 110 on my hip, Russell toothpick in my boot, and a Leatherman.

Hey, we may be neighbors. Where in California wine country are you?

Good for you that you are joining ! Take nothing to boot with you. After that, your unit may have rules about thing like knives. I good multi-tool can make barracks life better for small repairs and general use.
Beyond that, a Rat 1 or 2 are great folders and are easy to replace if needed.
Fixed blade......get something "iron skillet" reliable and do basic maintenance on it. Cold steel SRK, Leatherneck.
Gerber Strongarm is nice too.

I really appreciate everyone's advice. But I know what blades ill be getting it's just trying to find them haha. Busse boss jack or SJTAC and snf coyote g10 drop point. I really just wanted to know what you guys would carry if you were in a war.

Just out of curiosity, what are you expecting to do with your knife kit when you have joined?

This may be a bit of an obvious redundancy but if you are looking for a folder which was potentially designed for such a scenario, why not consider the Spyderco Military plus a multitool of some sort from Leatherman / Victorinox; once you find out the rules on your base?

Served with the 39th Combat Engineer's, Vietnam, 1967-68. I carried the issued Camillus made MIL-K-818D. More widely known as the demo knife, an all stainless steel scout pattern pocket knife. It opened C-rations, cut open boxes of all kinds on construction sites, cut marline for survey lines, sharpened stake for survey markers, and other jobs. The basic scout knife did well.

These days I carry the Swiss made version of it, the SAK soldier or Wenger SI. If I was going to war again, my choice would be the same.

Cold Steel SRK, Sog Powerlock with bit kit. I could also do the Ka-bar BK16 and the Leatherman Rebar.

Y'all should hit me up when you ever come near Fresno.

During five deployments my "go to war" knife was...

a Victorinox Compact. Worked like a champ.
