whats your grail knife?

Holy shit, that'll teach me to check the dates on an old thread. Right now, I am thinking about unloading my Sebs to put towards custom orders. Gossman Mother Tusker, custom Tony Bose. Lemme find a shoebox full of old, unused Remingtons (pre PAL, actual honest to goodness Remingtons).

Thanks Bryan. I have a few more of those that I forgot to lay out for that picture. 1095HC with cryo treatment is old school steel, but it still works today as well as it did in 1966 and before. And the Delrin is as durable as ever. You can see some slight chalking on one or two of those handles. A bit of oil burnishing and wiping and they look like new. Discontinued now, they were made for twenty five years so there are still plenty available. I sent one to Mistwalker a while back to replace the one he used to have. And I can pick up more any time I get the urge.

Yep, and actually replacing that knife was one of my grails. I need to take the camera with me more often when I carry that one, but I mainly carry it when I am off in thought and introspection remembering bygone days. I'll make a point to at least take the point and shoot next time. Another grail was a small scandi with dyed box elder scales and Andy of Fiddleback Forge took care of that at Blade this year. Another was an English made bushcraft knife like the Woodlore. I can't afford the real thing but friend in the UK sold me basically a clone that he had at an affordable price and it suits me just fine. A grail I still want is an older Randall 1-6 but that will be a while I think, unfortunately.

Origianal Bill Moran featherweight with silver inlaid into beautiful curly maple which is the basis for the Spyderco Bill Moran FB01 Featherweight. Photos are from the Master of the Forge book about Bill Moran's life.

This is the one.

Here is another example that would be fine, but it doesn't seem as elegant.

I guess if the right chance came about I would jump at a non-inlaid version also. :)

Not really my "grail knife" but I would immediately buy the Spyderco Bushcraft if they do a run in 3V.

I have a fee grail knives. Original Jimmy Lyle First Blood knife. That's what started the craze for me. Randall Model 18 is another. Chris Reeve Sebenza. Coffin handled Bowie knife that I have yet to design the particulars. Spivey Sabertooth.

I don't have one. I hope I never find it. If I did that would be the end of my making and collecting knives.

I too long for a FBM, and its second on my list only to Daniel Winkler's Competition camp knife or really any of his larger camp knives/choppers.

I have yet to see the perfect knife.

I don't know...I think it could be the user more times than not.
Atleast for me, my grail has changed so many times over my life, but honestly, the Skookum and several others are just fine with me...like the Mora 510. I am content, I collect for the fun, not because what I own won't perform. If I want something new, its because it looks awesome, not because it can do anything better. YMMV.

Ah!! You do not understand how cheap I am:D. I have had the same underware for over 5 years. It still works so why replace it.;)

Note to self....clean the hell outta anything I buy from this guy!

My idea of a grail knife is changing constantly. I think I want an edc fixed, then I want a chopper, then I want a six inch camp knife. I have made myself each of these and I am not yet satisfied. Right now I think my grail fixed blade is closer to an eight inch camp utility. My dream folder would have a five inch blade, lock up solid as a fixed, and fit in every pants pocket I own.
