Eric,

I've been looking it over and over and now I'm torn. At first I thought it was factory, but now that small clip has started to make me doubt a little. The more I look at it the more it does seem a little short. I've seen a few of those red-bone stockmen up in individual boxes and the ones I've seen were all serialized. Makes me wonder if during the time of the three knife set that maybe they weren't selling so well and Schrade decided to bust them up. Just a theory.

Chuck:

I don't think it is a modified spey, but I'm not convinced it is the same as the short spey on an 804 either. The spey starts to bend at the spine a little earlier on the 804. You have this one in hand yet?

Hal

Ok boys, I hope these pictures help in determining what I have here. I also threw in a picture of the 25th anniversary knife I got a week or so ago.

Aggie, I think Ostroker may be correct in his assumption....why would Schrade put a distinct long swedge on the master clip blade in the classic clip design with long nail pull and then put short nail pull and 'straight across the tip' clip on the third blade with little if any swedge not in keeping or complementing the clip shape or swedge of the master blade......I dont think its a variation knife with small clip blade......
Its still a beautiful well made knife at fantastic price....I'll go further a quality USA Schrade at a Chinese price...cant get much better than that...Hoo Roo.

different I agree!! not bad looking though bolsters rounded to add to the custom adjustments.

Russell

I tend to agree with you guys. The more I look(ed) at it the more I doubt the genuiness of that short "clip". Still, great knife at a great price. So now the hard part of deciding whether to carry or not to carry. Decisions, decisions. . .

Chuck

You know what is kind of funny about that stockman is that in the picture of the mark side of the knife that spey/clip looks like it fits. It isn't until you look at it from the pile side where you can see the short nail pull that it starts to look out of place. Weird. . .

The rounded bolsters might be even weirder yet.

I just won a GDOT stockman (4") from the bay...no box or paperwork but it looks good in the pictures. They were asking $64.99 but I bid $59 and won it. The last one I saw went for $112 but that had all the paperwork and a box. If it is in great shape like I think it is, was $59 a decent price?

just won this, a LB 5 with all the bling. hope it is as good in person as in the photos. this is the only second LB 5 i have with a sheath so that is nice.

Nice knife, from the early to mid 1950's. I think it would look better with a shield.
