In this case it could give decent example of what the knife is like and by marking a liner or a blade tang it shows the knife has been re-built.

If I was ever fortunate enough to come across suitable replacement blades it would be for this exact purpose - just to make it look the way I want it to look. I like the idea of marking the liner to ensure an accurate provenance follows the knife 50, 100 years down the road.

just got this one in. a Schrade Walden 778. the etch is still visible. what time frame was it produced? have one just like it but with a Union Carbide label on it.

Mid 1960's if memory serves me. Trademark 72184925 - first use December of 1963, filed Jamuary 1964, allowed March 1966.

Glad to score this one, it's been used enough to qualify for EDC. It does a fine job opening Christmas cards...

I picked up a used UH 171 on ebay for 52.00. The sheath is pretty well worn but the knife was is good shape. Some patina on the guard but looks like it was never sharpened and used very littls. I'll post a picture later.

Hal, What a great 294 and in Peachseed bone too. For most of us it would be the center piece of our collection. But i do believe these fine old knives Like to be carried, makes them feel needed and we all like that !

Dang, Hal, that's sweet looking user right there! Nice score, I've been looking for one of those for some time now. Missed that one altogether.

Oh yes, that Crafty is a humdinger.

Very much a humdinger!! Finest looking 804 I have seen in a while!! Nice going Calvin. I'm sure you are pleased with that purchase?

I'm seeing that one appearing in the 1948 Sears Catalog... all chrome vanadium steel, $3.95. It replaced a #9489 by Camillus prewar. It was $4.25 in the 1949 summer catalog and back down to $3.75 in the 1949-50 fall/winter catalog. It was still listed in the 1966-67 fall/winter catalog and for $3.79. None of the illustrations reproduce anything of the etch but the Craftsman logo. Not surprising since they were advertising art renditions.

Once again, a nice knife!

Michael in the 66-67 listing are the handles still the same bone ? I believe i have seen this Craftsman with jigged Delrin and possibly black Composition as well.
