Here are 2 nice stag handled 8OT's from 1978 with the Parker-Frost branding in addition to Schrade.

And their backsides:

Jan2012002-1.jpg

The seller had an opening bid price of $45 for one of them and $50 for the other. Nobody else bid. I think $50 for a 34 yr. old well made U.S.A. stag handled 3 blade knife with 1095 steel is a good deal, independant of any collectibility factor. I'm surprised others don't see it this way.

Here's one i've been wanting for the last few years, not too many show up. Schrade-Walden 880. This one is Delrin. Now i'm looking for a bone one. This knife shows 2 circles double stamped over the word "Schrade" but i don't think it is of any significance.

I'll put the rest in the next post.

3 1/4" 4 blade Junior Stockman with Cracked Ice handles, marked: "John Primble/Belknap/Hdw.& Mfg. Co" and 732 on the backside. I think this is an early Schrade-Walden, but it could be a late Cut. Co.

Here is a bone Schrade-Walden 834. I have at least 3 of these in jigged Delrin but not with me at present so i can't show a comparison picture. The jigged Delrin on these old 834's is about the best Schrade ever got it. It's not easy to distinguish it from bone.

Schrade-Walden 883 with jigged bone ? using my 10x loupe, i think it is bone but i'm not 100% sure.

Schrade Cut. Co. 3 3/16" Junior Stock knife with PS bone:

And, not really rare, but a nice Serpentine Jack pattern, a Schrade-Walden 236 with jigged "whatever" (pre Delrin and not bone)

I've received many more Schrades but i don't want to show all my excesses at once.

That nifty MOTS 4 blade junior stockman looks like an Ulster to me. Nice showing Roland. And those circles on the 880 were an designation for factory seconds I believe, instead of grinding the stamp off.

Thanks Hal. The 4 blade Stockman came from Ann L. who said just "Schrade". There is a Cut. Co. pattern like this but i don't know if it was carried on to S-W time. What makes it likely an Ulster ? Do you have a similar one ?
roland

The swedge and the mirror polished blades. It is an Ulster 55 like pattern. I have several, but never any with 4 blades.

I have not seen a Schrade 3 5/16" stockman with round bolsters. Only 3 1/2" or 3 9/16".

Correcting my senior moment. Schrade Walden did make a junior stockman in a 3 1/4", the 855 pattern. This one began around 1964 with the Razor Blade Series. Not sure when Ulster started making that pattern. None the less, that is a rare 4 blade junior stockman. I have looked in the Schrade and Ulster catalogs, and do not see this pattern in 4 blades or cracked ice. Really like the knife.

The 4 blade Serpentine Stock knives in Cat. E are all 4 ". I thought i had seen one of this 3 1/4-5/16" size as well but i cannot locate the picture reference.
How far would Schrade go in modifying an existing pattern for possibly their largest customer ?
Did they use the 855 frame and insert an extra blade.
As you know Hal, the seller i mentioned got her knives from Schrade managers while living in Ellenville in the 1960's-70's, and her mention of "Schrade" could be generic enough to include Ulster.
Maybe someone can help out with "how much modification for an SFO big customer" like Primble/Belknap ?

It is without a doubt the same 855 frame, which Schrade "inherited" from Ulster, with the 58OT being the only Ulster Old Timer with the sawcut Delrin. The Schrade Ellenville facility was at one time the building on Canal Street, previously occupied by Ulster, now owned by Canal Street Cutlery, if I am thinking straight. The Schrade and Ulster companies were once owned by the Baers. I would imagine they got what they wanted to make from any of the companies they owned. It all ended up being one Imperial Schrade company in the end. If you look in the Belknap catalogs, you will see more John Primble examples of knives that could be Schrade-Ulster hybrids. There are imperial products in there as well.

Nice haul Roland. Seems like you have been busy lately! A good broad brush variety of Schrade variations.

Very good looking specimen of the 880, I also like the two stag stockmans.

Roland, upon further examination, I believe you will find that 4 blade junior stockman to be handled in genuine Mother of Pearl.

Calvin, i think you are right ! But it does look rather Cracked Icey, maybe a lower grade of pearl than the multi-hued stuff on my little English & German Gent's knives. How did you know ?

SC513 i put a bid for 45$ and got it for 28$.
The seller delivered to my letterbox the next day which was Sunday.
How good is That?
Shame about the (burn?) mark .There's a slight indentation too at that spot but check out the blade. Pretty much virgin.
Anyone got a hint on cleaning off that mark? or possibly recolouring to cover it up?
Cheers.

Send it down, and I will make sure! ;)

Here is a bone 880 that was very dirty and still very stained, but smooth; no micro-pitting at all.
