Hal, Thanks for the info on the birseye Craftsman. I haven't been able to find any info on it to date. Any ideas on why it says Custom Made? Randy

I found that one on eBay last week.
The seller had an other one, much the same as the Schrade 77OT - I did not want that one.
The one above is the same size as the Schrade 34OT - I'm still looking for the four inch one, like the Schrade 8OT.

Been wanting a Hoppy for 4-5 years....could never find one I could afford.

That's a pretty cool knife. I'm not familiar with the Cowboy Series. That's really nice compared to the cheap dime store versions of the TV hero knives I've seen. Lots of blade etch. Good find!

Thanks! I think there's 5 or 6 in the series. Hoppy was always my fav!!!!! :D

hate to say but that knife was not manufactured in 1978 more likely in the 80's and up depending on if it is serialized.

I agree, mine, bought by me brand new in 1979 is a four pin with a four digit serial number. (All numeral, no Alpha)

I know what your thinking, "He bought a girls knife". Well, it's RED, not pink like in the photos......Really! I was crossing my fingers that the light in the auction photos made it look lighter than it really is. Fortunetly, it is a pleasing darker hue of red. I'm not a red bone knife kinda guy anyway, but the unique set-up on this limited edition premium stockman caused me to bid on it. I'm glad I did. It really sparkles with mirror polished blades and all. The 'Wonda' sheep's foot blade clinched it for me to bid on a 'girls knife'.

Limited Edition shield, engraving plate, Tang Stamped HERITAGE Schrade+ USA and H897 on the pile side of the turkish clip.

I like that red knife. When was it made? and did Schrade make that knife before 2004.

I asked myself those same questions when I first spotted this knife on ebay. As to exactly when it was made, I cannot say. I can say with certainty that it was made on or before 2004. I came to that conclusion because the tang stamps are the same as another premium stockman I have and to my knowledge Taylor does not have the rights to, or ever use the 'Schrade+' tang stamp. I've seen the ugly red bone handled crap that Taylor peddles and they don't compare to this one. I'm confident that it's the real deal. I'm always out there 'wading through the weeds' being attracted to and seeking the 'one off', limited edition, rare, odd ball and EOD knives I like.

I have this knife, but these pictures are from someone else.

This is another HERITAGE variation. This is the only evidence I have of this knife's existence. I have yet to have the opportunity to add it to my collection of red handled HERITAGE knives. It was said to have the number H097 stamped on the pile side of the turkish clip blade which is consistent with the others in that line and they have the same tang stamp on the mark side. This is the only picture I have seen of it and it's a crappy one. It does appear to have the double X treatment on the tang stamp.

Here is an example of Schrade using that Limited Edition shield.

This Ty Murray 897UH shows the use of the serrated sheep's foot blade and I have seen one or two other premium stockman editions in the past with the 'Wonda' blade.

All of the knives above, look to be from the last knives to come out of Schrade’s factory. Your red knife looks to have been made up from parts; the main blade with the Heritage stamp, could be from an earlier knife. I have a full finished set of the blue bone “special order” knives, and the bone looks much the same as your red knife. I have about 30 of those shields also, so it looks like they were left-over stock in 2004. I think that Ty Murray knife was also in the pipe-line, I have a fixed blade knife with the same shield – plus I know where to find about 200 of those shields.
When Schrade stopped trading, I put all my effort into collecting knives made in 2002-2003.
I believe the seller that sold that white trapper, had that box and case made up – at one time about six years ago he sold a number of knives in those white boxes and cases. Most of his knives were one-offs and very specials. Ken.

I think what you say is true about the white trapper. I thought that might be the case with that one. But the red one I do believe is a part of a series that Schrade did on or before 1998 or '99. I bought my first two, a HERITAGE H194 ($17) and H034 ($15) in one of those two years. I was in a western wear and tack store and they had a half a bushel wicker basket full of these HERITAGE knives of different patterns, all in the same black and marroon boxes. Wish I had bought the whole basket full now, they were discounted like a special purchase or something. Now I see them pop up on ebay from time to time and in patterns I've never seen before. Like the H889 I got last year. I'm positive that the H097 above is one of them. The black one I think is like what Schrade did alot of times and took a Copenhagan knife and put the Schrade shield on it and Heritage blade. I've seen it done with the green skoal knives too. I like those green ones with that oval Schrade shield. I'm thinking that my red bone knife is a special order or some kind of one off knife that Schrade made in Ellenville. I think if you held it in your hand, you would think the same thing too. Those HERITAGE blades show up on several knives that can be traced back to Ellenville production. Regardless, it IS a REALLY nice, well made knife for what I payed for it.

Some of the red ones I have are the H012

This H889 popped up on ebay last year and surprised me. I was glad to get it, even without a box.

This H070 showed up on ebay last year but the guy wanted a ridiculous price for it and insisted on selling the sheath separately for $35. So I settled for one of the many for sale with the Heritage box and sheath and no shield for a little more than this guy wanted for the sheath alone. Still searching for one with a shield....

And then there is this surprise a couple of months ago. HERITAGE H296. I couldn't click BIN fast enough!

Then there is this phantom knife that fits the profile of the red HERITAGE knives. This is all I have on this one too, one picture.

I still think that beautiful red bone knife is something Schrade was working on, around 2002-03.
To-date I have not found anyone that knows what was in the pipe-line at Schrade - I have a number of the knives that did not make it to production. I have 8OT's with the Anniversary inlay in the handle, even some of the knives made in China, that Schrade intended to sell. But as I said before, there was a lot of un-known things going on in the factory around 2003; that I would like to know more about.

The traditional Schrade collectors, like the old Walden knives - and show little interest in what was going on at Schrade from 2000 to 2004. At one time I was looking for the only knife I do not have in my 2004 collection, the SQ111 - I had made up my mind I would have pay top money for one. However, I now believe Schrade never made even one; although it is shown in their 2003-04 flyer's.

Ever time I found a red bone Schrade, I had to have it; I can send you my address, if you don't intend to keep that one. LOL... Ken

There were a number of knives sold in white boxes, with stick-on numbers and USA on them like this one.

I also have some of these that were shipped from the factory in January 2004 in the blue and cream boxes.
This is also a knife I have not seen since I found this one.

I missed out on the Heritage set in the display unit, at the time there was so many knives I wanted before I got the Heritage knives.

You could very well be right about my red bone knife. I was leaning toward SFO I guess because of the engraving badge on it. We are not that far apart in looking for the out of the ordinary knives and what made it to the market place from '03 and '04. I have been trying to find out if the CSW98 Cigar Box Classic ever left the factory. I have seen examples of all the other patterns, but I have only seen the single blade trapper in the Schrade website archives from 2004. It's a favorite pattern of mine and would pay-up pretty big to get one. So far as I know, nobody else has seen one either. I like the old knives too but I still lean towards the more unusual ones. Like the bone handled Schrade Walden 825 below. Only one I've ever seen. Had to wonder if that knife gave Schrade the inspiration for the Cigar Box Classics. Your collection is amazing. That is the prettiest picture of an X-Timer that I have ever seen. It shows it off really well.

I have seen all of the Cigar Box Classics selling for about $100 for each box. Again I let them go, because I was only paying $33 for the Classics - and under $200 for my un-opend Classic Display.
With so many D'holders, Lake & Walker SLW1s, Loveless, Blue bone Rop-cut ACB's, my New never used 2004 Display (that came with six of every knife) to stock it; it was all happening too fast for me.
I also found some of the sellers, would not ship to Australia - a members of this forum sent knives, and did not want payment for them.

This is only some of my collection. I do not owen one of the early bone 8OTs shown. However, I do have two of the bone 8OT's 1960-61.

I have some ACB8's and ACB72's too, I would have liked to see them make it to production.

This is the only set of these I have ever seen, I have seen some unfinished ones about.
