Like the whaler theme.

No artist name that I can see.

What's the story on this one?

No idea, just stumbled on to it on the bay. Saw an example years ago and have had an eye out for one ever since...would like to know the date as well! Have a couple other Schrades (Heralds of the Sea) and a Case that are whale themed. The back has the standard engraving panel.

I got picked it up for $24 then the 10 pack of shield was $10. So I've got a little bit of cash in it but not like those NOS ones on the Bay. Did a recent search for one & found one in good great same for cheap. So you may want to look again: Vintage Schrade USA Unsharpened VFC Bearhead Trapper 96 OT.

Once I get the shield glued in I'll have more pictures. Whit the condition it's in I plan to make it a user in a nice small sheath.

KoldGold, That 96OTS would be nice since it has the saw blade. I just saw one of those for a pretty penny this weekend on Face(book); Not sure if I can comment about that page on here.
I just had a look for my 96OTS, this is the first time the box has been opened.
The 96OTS is a 96OT with a sheath. No saw blade.
I would take a photo of my knife. However, it has all the factory grease still on it.
This is an 94OT I found in my collection.

This is the 97 DUCK with the saw blade, I found some MIN ones, around 2004.
I have seen some un-finished 97. However, there is not many finished one about in their tins... Ken

By the way you can post knives you see on eBay, after the auction has ended.

Another Schrade mystery to be answered.

Like the way they used "poachers" in the description. I believe Larry from down under has posted about this set with pictures. I could be wrong on the contributor though.

You can see on the SC507 Frank Goirgianni's initials.

To me the box set up doesn't seem to be from the 70's. Now that I posted the other images you can see his initial on all of them close up.

Also I believe the Blacksmith didnt show up until the mid 80's and the 3OT model which is the SC513 shows up in catalogs in 86'.

I based that '75 date on a 152 Whaler for sale (on the big water site) but I realize now that the 152 is not in this set!!!!

 My bad!

So we think post '86? Guess I thought it was older because the stockman has carbon blades (although I can't remember the change over to Schrade+ date). :)

I wouldn't take everything (or even anything) you read on that site as gospel. I'd say keep your search alive. ;)

If you are talking about the Schrade Whaler Scrimshaw Set (3 Knives) they were produced in 1990. There were 1500 sets produced and Retail at that time was $173.40

This is from my Schrade Files....It was a compilation of Schrade Limited Edition and Commemorative Knives listing put together at Schrade in March 1994

Thanks Tom!!

Ken,

I saw that question and honestly I cannot confirm or deny the statement that they are Salesman Samples. I find it hard to believe that Schrade would have taken the time to engrave a salesman number on the knives when they were usually putting out a hundred or so samples per knife. Now, having said this, it is possible that the salesman did this to identify his/her sample.

I will follow up with my Mom and Uncle and see if they can shed some light on it.

It is a great set! I have a lot of Sçhrade knives....north of 2000 and yet I do not have that set. I am really not a big fan of the Schrade Scrim Shaw. I am a huge Schrade fan...I just don't have the feel for their Scrim Shaw....maybe because it is just hot stamping versus actual Scrim Shaw.

I probably need to just go ahead and try to find one of these sets anyway. Thank you for posting that set!

Funny you should say that about Scrim Shaw, Tom.
I like Ducks and Schrade Duck knives, and I have a large collection of Schrad's Duck Knives.
However, this is the only Scrim Shaw knife I have in my collection. No prize if you can see why... Ken

I have heard of North to Alaska, were is north of 2000? I'm not very good a Geography.

The IXL Heralds of the Sea is real ink on bone done in Mass., then shipped to England for fitting IIRC.

So the bone scales were done in the U.S., then shipped to IXL in Sheffield? That should make them even more collectible.
