Opening packages is a typical knife function, but I hate it sometimes.
Some packing tapes tend to leave lots of adhesive on the blade. Since I use my knives for everything, I try to keep them a little clean of obvious gunk in case I use it on food.

Wiping it on my jeans just seems to pick up jean lint.
Washing it with detergent does okay, but it doesn't always work in one try, and I'm not always near a sink.
Scraping it off with my fingernail is tedious.
Goo gone and other such products seem like stuff I don't want touching things that come into contact with food.

So anyway... what's your preferred way of dealing with tape snot?

Hand sanitizer.

I carry a little pocket size bottle of Purrell on me, and it's mostly just jelled alcohol. I use a bit on a tissue or paper towel and it takes the glue right off. You can clean. your hands with it too, as well as take out food spots on your clothing since it dries in a few minutes.

A drop of oil on the tape residue. Rub it in real good and it will come off when you wipe the blade.

My hand rubbing pic was joking but not joking because that’s usually where it starts and then more often than not it ends with me using a microfiber and mineral oil for wiping down carbon blades. The oil definitely helps! 🍻

just leave it be, cause it's gonna get gunked up again anyways.

This.

Because they came to me with poor QC, I have two beater knives: a Spartan Pallas and a ZT 0990. Different steels, same gunk all over the blades. Button lock, liner lock, respectively. The Pallas is drop shutty dangerous. The ZT closes like a bar full of drunken college students.

Alcohol, Lighter fluid (gas), or acetone (nail polish remover), depending on the stuff to be removed.

Will completely disappear after a couple of minutes, no risk for food.
