what's your thoughts on A.G. Russell knives?

I believe you that you aren't happy with the knife. And there could very well be some manufacturing issues with that model.
But after receiving three replacements, I don't think you can fault AG's level of service. And if you still aren't happy, for ultimate satisfaction send the knife back for a refund.

Thank you for being the only one that understands the complaint of subject matter. Your statement " and there could very well be some manufacturing issues with that model" yes you're correct, there is absolutely things wrong with that model because every knife is made differently in terms of having flaws in each one. The website did not state ( every knife condition will vary in terms of how it's manufactured because these are not made by machines/in a jig. Everyone else thought I was talking bad about the entire company of AG Russell which I thought if people were that slow, then I can't help them on that.

In regards to not being happy, the return person from AG stated that since having workmanship flaws on the knife is not a working defect, I will be responsible for shipping every time. I think that answers that question that AG Russell's famous return guarantee has limitations which conflicts their website quote on quote that customer controls that guarantee.

Perhaps one day I will have your extensive experience of Cutlery Manufacturing:

"Apparently those production knives are not made in a jig so yes, you will get what you called bad batches and bad grinds, and in fact too many to count."

Or maybe NOT! :p

Did you ever think of asking for your money back? A.G.'s guarantee insists that you are a satisfied customer.
Why not try that?

It doesn't take an expert to notice flaws in a knife. Snody knives company can teach you a thing or two about making production knives. watch this video and fast forward and click on 11 mins into the video and he will speak the truth about knife making to get consistent results.

The Guarantee does not get your shipping back too. There's a short answer to it.

For the record, I am so done with this forum. I have made a statement, and it's getting old now so it's time to stop posting here. Oh by the way, there is another forum similar to this one where a member have stated that almost all AG Russell knives made abroad tends of have issues. So apparently I am not the only one so called the alien posting opinions. With that said, i'm out.

Well, at least this discussion has exposed me to a knife I did not know existed. An interesting $60 knife with a Douk-Douk looking handle.

Now if it were a $200/$400 kitchen knife I could see Master Collector's complaint...sans the attitude.

For me personally--I would be more interested if it held an edge and cut my carrots. Then I would sent it back in a heart beat! [emoji41]

Think I'll buy one just to see.

I haven't bought anything from Russell since he started importing from China. Seems a bit odd to promote God, Country, Mom and Apple Pie then buy his products from China.

A. G. did not want to do business in China but he had too. A.G. explains this on his website.
My AGR knives from China are of outstanding quality.

Right, a business decision. Increase profits! It's the American Way!

Funny, according to AG Russell's site, they came out with the second model of folding chef's knife because the folding Hocho was their second biggest selling knife ever.

Promises, promises...bye bye.

I own this one in VG10. It slices like crazy. It's my favorite knife to cook with while camping or visiting a friend's house.

I've not held the latest version of the knife. I like the fact that scales were added but am a little disappointed about the steel downgrade. I like 8cr13mov just fine...But thin VG10 is a lot nicer.

Hey Alex...I was so unimpressed with Master Collector that I have ordered one of these knives. It's the version II so it'll have the 8cr13mov blade but it'll still give me a chance to see how this knife is made and how good it slices. We do a lot of traveling around in our RV and hotels and I've been looking for something like this for a traveling kitchen knife. Once I get it I'll post my own review.

I suspect you'll quite like it. And truly...I expect the handle fit and finish will be even better on the 8Cr13Mov version. Stuff coming out of that factory is probably around some of the best value for money that I've seen.

Perhaps you would like to educate us all on which surviving American Cutlery factory is willing and able to produce A.G.'s current traditional knife designs?

A.G. currently has his knives made in the USA, China, Taiwan, Japan & Italy.
Are you just offended by the Chinese ones??

To accuse A.G. Russell of not being a supporter and defender of the American Cutlery Industry quite frankly illustrates significant ignorance on your part.

Please be sure to post a review of the knife, I am interested in hearing how it performs. I could actually use a good camping kitchen knife myself. Of course part of the fun of camping is using a knife that isn't really designed for cooking, but these folding hochos actually seem like a really handy item.
