May I ask why a lot of big handmade knife blades have that rough look like a rash or scales (not sure what it's called) along the spine? Thanks!

It's just the scale and hammer marks left from forging.I leave it sometimes on a big user to cut down on grinding-finishing costs.It will resist rust and some folks just think it looks cool.

Edwood, What rig is that? Is it a stand-alone vest or an over the plate carrier rig?
Im looking for a rig for my next pump to afghan. Ive been admiring your stuff for quite some time, and im pretty sure you have me convinced to get the Winkler belt knife you have.
I'm very envious of your Winkler hawks too. I went with a RMJ Shrike, I wont feel as bad hacking down some compound doors with that as i would a Winkler.
