Mannlicher, that is a beautiful m1 carbine. i almost bought an Inland but ended up getting the SMLE...might have to be a future purchase

Gotta ask how hard is it to find a good No1 MkIII in the US? what sort of money do they run? is brass hard to get? I can get a matching serial SMLE for $200 here in Aus and I grew up shooting them (took out ANZAC day shoots for longest open sight grouping)...IMO one of the greatest rifles ever made and I sold mine because I'm moving stateside but every time I see one a massive void in me is exposed! :D

What year is yours? I had a 1922 model, full matching serials, sling and it shot REALLY nice.

Well, I actually just built it over the last 6 months, so haven't been able to go hunting with it yet, but will in the next couple of months! :D It is slightly front heavy, but I think that is more because of the 20" barrel and Harris bipod I have on it. What I want to do is either buy the Magpul 1 point sling that converts over to a 2 point (for easier carrying in the field) or just slap a caribeaner on my 1 point I have on it and have a manual 2-point conversion.

The scope itself is awesome. A gunsmith I kno here locally said that the same company who makes glass for nightforce makes the glass for bushnell. don't ask me how he knows this... I have not verified it. But I can say that I have looked through a leupold and this scope's clarity is on the same level.... absolutely amazing. It also is shockproof, waterproof, and fog-resistant since it's dry nitrogen filled. check out this video for a review of it on snipershide.

Thanks for the reply! will definitely look more into this scope then...I'm a crack shot on open sights but wanna join the big boys going a little further :)

Of course we would, we are knife collectors. We make up reasons to justify our purchases.

"Well, zombies are comin'. Better get a Kukri."
"Well, making a bug-out bag, better get a fixed blade."
"Well, walking through a bad area, better get a big tactical folder."
"Well, got a wedding comin' up, better get a gentlemans knife."

:D

Truer words have never been spoken.

this one is mine. Its a weapon against radioactive ghuls but I am prerry sure it will chop-chop zombies too :)

here is a short foto story how I created it. pure 100% fun while doing it :)

Michael:

Did you do all the stock removal with the disc grinder? Video appears to show quenching, but was there a tempering process that wasn't shown? What was the steel and what is the handle material?

hi there

steel is high carbon 1045, of course knife was tempered after quenching :) I have belt grinder but this piece of steel is 8mm so i removed lot of needles material using angle grinder. On handle its some king of G10

My SMLE is a 1942, matching serial numbers. It is stamped on the stock that it was refited for HV ammo in 1943. It's a Lithgow, so it is also Australian. The gunstore i bought it at had 2 of them and this one was in the best shape. I payed a little over 300 for it which i thought was a steal because it is in excellent shape. Nice crisp rifling, smooth bolt, stock isn't beat up or anything. As far as ammo, its on the expensive side. I can usually find it at Cabelas or small gunstores but it can be hard to find so i usually stock up when i can. i haven't seen it cheaper than $20 a box, so i've been saving my brass and plan on getting into reloading for it. And it is an awesome shooter! Another pic:

Now if i could only find a No.5 Mk.1 Jungle Carbine....

$300 I can do and $20 a box is about what I was paying for new rounds here...I also fired surplus but they are caustic as hell! I would clean my barrel and breach out good at the range but its also a good way to get brass to tumble and reuse (hell you could probably buy surplus just to reload, take the caustic stuff out). Really hope I can find one like yours because that is in great condition, I know those like the back of my hand! but mine was pretty beat up on the stock but the barrel was crisp. Does yours have the standard issue cleaning kit in the swing door on the butt plate?

Good luck on the No5 Mk1 :p I looked here and the only ones to come up were selling for a premium!

I've been looking around for surplus ammo but haven't had any luck finding any. All i've been shooting is Prvi Partizan SP and FMJ, it's all i can find for .303. And yes it's got an old bore snake type cleaning string with a brass canister that i assume was for oil. I dont use that to clean it but it is neat that its in the stock. The brass canister is also stamped MA Lithgow.

The only Jungle Carbine i've seen was going for something like 550 and wasnt in the best shape.

Zombie head fossil!
I started to color on this rock that I found and realized that it actually looks like a turtle head of some sort.
fossilheadcanoncamera002.jpg

It looks like a reptile ear at the bottom, then a nostril at the right. It's worn on the other side but there is evidence of a symmetrical nostril and eye socket.

They gave you a G36, Ed? How you liking that? Isn't that the model with the red dot sight?

The G36 I have is equipped with a ZF 3x4° dual optical sight that combines a 3x magnified telescopic sight. I love it so far, I use it on locations were a need a bit more reach. They are excellent riffles, there only drawback is there magazines, they are very hard to get and even harder to keep in a magazine pouch.
There is a H&K manufacturing plant in Mexico were all the weapons we carry are made. But my MP5 is 100% German.
