Wheeler's Steel * Stuck in the metal with you

That wood is beyond stunning. This one is going right into the file for whenever the "don't put wood with damascus" nonsense flairs up again.

Roger

Nick, it must've been fate for that first block of wood to have a hidden flaw. As much as it must've sucked to find the flaw, I'm not sure I've ever seen a nicer block of wood than what the knife ended up with.

Wow

as a major Koa "hoarder" I can honestly say that piece is as nice as any I've EVER seen

and your finish really brings it out beautifully:thumbup::thumbup:

There you have it - from the expert himself.

Dang Nick!
I think you really brought out the full potential in that piece of koa.

Thank You Nick and Lorien for such an informative thread. I really learned a lot. Please sign me up for your handles class if you ever decide to do such a thing.

Nicky, your talent is amazing and your work ethic, and attitude toward excellence is inspiring. You make me smile.

Truly AWESOME Nick. You have a great methodology, impressive skills and this process has been fascinating.

That Koa is incredible and it would be great to see Coop do his magic with some photos.

Thanks,
Peter

That turned out sooo nice Nick!!
What a great looking knife!!

Thank you again for showing us all this, Nick and Lorien!! It's been a true pleasure to see!

Nick,

An Extra Large THANK YOU !

- From me and the unknown number of silent others who've been quietly following along since the start.

Those 44,547 views didn't come from nowhere ;)

We've been watching and learning the whole time and have read, will re-read, and most certainly return to re-re-read.

Your attension to detail in making knives is fantastic and carries over well to teaching. Perhaps something you should consider in the future.

Thanks again to both you and Lorien for taking the time to share with us all !

-Josh

Congrats on a fantastic knife and a fantastic thread

Nick and lorien much apreciated

what about a sheath who is doing that ?

to all of you who thanked me, I say 'you're welcome'. It truly was a pleasure for me in so many different ways.
:)

As for a sheath, if Nick doesn't make one, I will.

You could send it to me I will make you a sheath, and I would promise to give back the a knife too:p

Probably the best WIP thread ever.

I can't believe how much I've learnt from this...thank you for sharing.

All we need now is the Nick Wheeler book and DVD.:D

Superb.

Lorien, you're a lucky man.:D

Cripes! Man that is beautiful Nick and thanks so much, I mean SO MUCH, for documenting this. There is just so much that is helpful and innovative in your methods.

What a gorgeous knife and I'm very happy to say that I live close enough to Lorien that I'll get to see it in person.

That domed pin tutorial had me very nervous looking at the pics with the punch and that nice handle. I used a punch enough, and made mistakes with one enough to be extra fearful. One slip and it's lights out.

Just great stuff.

A pleasure to witness, an unexpected education, and a commentary of excellence.

What a fine job!

Thank you guys. :D

I think you could say a new era of knife making, collecting, selling and showing has arrived? :)

Great job guys. -

Beautiful knife. -

Well, that handle's as beautiful as any I'll ever see. Maybe the knife gods wanted Nick to work his magic on this particular block of Koa!

(BTW, Nick and I did discuss this method of doming pins. Now that I've seen how he ran with the method, I'll have to make my own little adjustable, dished, pin cupped fixture to replace my stone-age "chunk 'o metal". The boy's just the most dedicated, hard-working, ingenious, COMPULSIVE, knifemaker on the planet. )

Nick's WIP is the BEST, and Nick himself ain't far from it.

Congrats, Lorien and Nick,

John
