I'm going to start this thread with a brief stroll down memory lane, and soon, when this knife arrives and is in my possession, we'll turn off memory lane onto some uncharted trail.

It all started with this;

which was rejigged to this;

it really isn't ALL just in a name. Although, to a bike guy, WHEELER is a damn fine name. So we call the knife Wheeler's Steel!

that handle is shaping up nicely;

And let's give Coop a big round of applause for being an awesome guy and for capturing this beauty artfully on film.

I feel a weight of responsibility on me, owning such a legendary knife, but the weight is no burden and I will gladly bear it for the rest of my life. This is MY knife, the only one exactly like it that will ever exist, and I'm honored to have been involved in its genesis.

For the full story on this knife, check out the 500+ pictures and 34 pages of this thread; http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...Wheeler-s-Steel-*-Stuck-in-the-metal-with-you

Stay tuned. Video and photo documentation of field use coming soon, to a thread near you...

Again? Lorein, we just want to see the tree's (or what's left of them) that your butcher with the knife! And a nice helmet cam video documenting it. You are one of a few that beat on these beasts. No memory lane, just go insane.

Looking forward to the field testing and of course some fine leather to carry her in!! :thumbup:

Right on Lorien...No shelf Queens man. They are made to be used. :D

I'll be gettin this knife some time next week probably, there will be more to come then.
I really just started this thread now so that folk who don't wanna wander around the original thread to see Coop's fine picture could see it here nice and easy.
Only intended to include a couple other of the build pictures, but when I saw all 500+ in my photobucket I had to grab a few more than planned and put them here as well.

I wouldn't be able to take this knife out in the woods and abuse it.
To me it would be like taking a brand new Black 4wd Escalade and using it to go off roading.
Knife abuse is what they make the ugly knives with a machine finish blade and plastic handles for.

knife use does not equate to knife abuse

Sometimes yes, and sometimes no....it's really about HOW you use it.

Nick grinds them super thin to win, and if you inadvertently catch that edge on a rock....it will likely chip.....and if that happens amigo, it would suck to be you!

Think of the knife not only as a tool, but also as an heirloom, with monetary AND sentimental value greatly increased by the WIP thread that Nick worked so hard to put together.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Please do not read my enthusiasm for a knife being used as encouraging knife abuse....What you do with your escalade is your own business. I have some knives I have brought out hunting mostly to show the guys and maybe cut some rope and no intention of even mild use. I think Most people who take the time to participate in this forum probably have a decent scense of appropiate use for a specific blade. I certainly would not expect Lorien to build a trail with this blade and as Steven says it would suck to damage it as it is an heirloom. By the same token it has been tested as I remember and maybe it deserves the honor of being used as it was intended even if it is in a careful manner.

Best,
Eric

ooooh, reallllly now? You should know better what to expect from me, my friend:D

Beautiful knife. I really like the style and how it all came together. Great job and I really have to say I love the handle the best. Very nice.

Lorien its a great knife from a great maker . You spent your hard earned money on it so do what ever you want to it

Congrats to all involved from the incredible thread to the insanely talented Mr Nick and can't forget Coop for a great photo.

Congrats to you for putting it all together

BTW my Knight Combat Bowie even thou it is not ment to be a chopper has even tasted wood. I wanted to see how deep I could snap cut into a limb with it:D

Poor choice of words on my part.
I did not mean to be confrontational or imply you would not use the knife with care.
My apologies.

Looking at the knife and thinking of it being used to chop a trail or just used as a tool just gets my adrenaline going.
Although it is made with the ability to be used as a tool, in my mind it is a work of art. Something to be treasured.

Just my opinion. As usual I probably should have kept it to myself.
